yeah I think a lot of this idiocy is the result of Navarro whispering in his ear. We have to hope there are other people in the room who can get through to the Dotard.

Ok now let's do it without the maga bias:

1- Ford announces a 25% surcharge on electricity experts.
2- Lutnik calls Ford in a panic, begs him to delay the tariffs in return for having a conversation in person. Ford gets the conversation that he wanted, Lutnik gets the tariffs delayed.


I get it. There's a lot of noise right now with social media and whatnot and we must announce a winner and loser with every possible event. But in this case, it's all rather insignificant. What happens after the meeting is where you can start being armchair experts and evaluating.

There is no plan, though. Trump says a lot of dumb shit and has the attention span of a gnat. Of course, he's totally unpredictable so I can't predict what will happen.

Let's wait and see, we can't do much else anyway. Dougie can always put the electricity tax back on at any point, and even shut it off if he wants to. Despite their bravado, they are aware of this too.

Yeah I mean... this doesn't really fit with his comments at all from the day before.

He didn't want to talk - he pointed out that they weren't good faith negotiators. He said he would be touching the stove to budge until they follow the trade agreement and remove all tariffs.

Apparently this is Dotard’s worldview and Navarro is just confirming his bias. No one else is going to get through. He is willing to take the hit in the equity markets to get his way.

I'm not assuming anything though. Only those who say Ford caved and lost are making assumptions. I didn't call Canada and Trudeau a winner and say that trump caved when he delayed tariffs 5000 times either.

1. Everyone is losing
And 2. We need to relax on announcing a winner and loser with every miniscule event. The Maga administration will continue to push that stuff, but that's part of their propaganda M.O. Don't fall for it.

Imagine if we analyzed union negotiations like this? Omg one side delayed a threat in return for a face to face meeting. LOSERS!! WHAT A BITCH, HE CAVED!!!!

Them talking is good for everyone. That's how this gets resolved, whether we like the other team or not. If he finds that the meeting isn't serious and nothing good came of it, and we don't do anything about it? Then yeah, sure criticize him.
 
But, I get it. It's the social media age where we need an instant analysis on everything. We have an administration that pushes propaganda and will always make themselves out to be the alpha in every situation. It's hard to not fall for it.

The meeting's not serious, because the person he's meeting with is talking about annexing Canada still. But yeah, sure, I'll wait.
 
It’s performative, for us.

There’ll be nothing substantive until the election is over.

All meetings will be meaningless to the US. Mostly just opportunities to troll and humiliate.
 
The scary part is. If the USA was smart they could probably have been strategic about tariffs and used them on the stuff that hurt us more and them less.

who said Ford lost anything? he just caved on his electricity tariffs - I don't know how you can get around this, it seems like objective reality to me, based on what he has said publicly about why he put them in and what it would take to remove them.

I was upset that Ford backed off in negotiations, despite saying he wasn't going to, and explaining why. I bought his explanation at the time he made it - it seems you did not. you seem to think it was worth backing down from his electricity tariffs in exchange for a chat with a guy who is spending the intervening period throwing Ford under the bus publicly.

and again, comparing these negotiations to union negotiations is comparing apples to space ships. you seem to want to assume good faith, without actually saying that...
