New Canadian Politics Thread

Not a risk, IMO.

He’ll have a strategy that shows strong support for Canadians and businesses that are affected and will not want to look feckless or weak.

Carney has already talked about using tariff revenue to support the small business that it hurts the most.

I don't think he'll bitch out. Even from a strategic standpoint of trying to win an election, Canadians aren't gonna support that.
His plan of making deals with other countries will be key so I'd almost see prices going up as a helpful thing. Even the least politically engaged ppl we know are aware of the tariffs.

I think Carney’s pitch will basically be there’s an unprecedented attack on our country, we need to strengthen our alliances, I’m the best to manage the economy, we’re the party that will keep Canada strong. I don’t think the cost of strawberries is going to throw him off track.

PP will say our country is weak because of liberals, only Conservatives can heal the divide with the US, carbon tax, grocery prices, it’s all Carney’s fault, etc.

Genuinely not sure which message is going to resonate with more people.

And yeah, no way Carney wusses out on counter-tariffs out of fear of grocery prices going up. I think anyone who’s not a Maple MAGA dummy knows there’s some pain incoming for standing up to the US, but that it’s ultimately far better than the alternative.

Also agreed that if Carney does roll over, he deserves to lose and we’ll be fucked either way.
