New Canadian Politics Thread

They're not campaigning on any left I'm familiar with.
Well, true.

They are campaigning on their record.

Running for re-election is hard, because if they have any huge game changing policy ideas people ask why it wasn't done in their first 4 years.

But you raise a good point, outside of dragging the CPC into the mud, they don't really have any concrete policy ideas. Or if they do, they have yet to release them. They are just tinkering at this point.

Tinkering the first time homebuyers program.

Tinkering CCB.

Tinkering OAS.

The big, (unaffordable) ideas are coming from the NDP and... Well, the NDP.

If people had told me a year ago to guess which Canadian politician would have been caught doing black/brown face, I would have put money on Doug Ford or Brian Palister. Not trudeau.

This is where the Scheer advantage starts to play out. Boring, by the numbers, charisma of drying paint, but would never be caught up in this because he looks like a guy who hasn't been to a party since his 15 birthday.

One can only hope this is as bad as it gets, not sure how many more blows the Liberal party can withstand this year.

It would be rather hypocritical of him to say that. The Liberals have been busy digging deep for old Conservative dirt.

In the long run I still don’t think it will have the same impact as it would have if the picture featured Sheer instead of Trudeau.

If this had of been another member of the liberal party who was in these pictures, they would have been fired immediately.

If the liberals were to fire Trudeau for this crap, they would probably have an easier time winning the election lol.

LOL @ Trudeau.

How the hell did he manage to get through four elections as an MP and the last election where he was running for PM against a ruthless political operator in Harper without any of this coming to light?

I said back when it looked like the SNC-Lavelin scandal might bring him down that in an ideal world, now that Trudeau's served his purpose bringing the LPC back to relevance and ending the Harper era, he'd get kicked to the curb and replaced with someone with more intelligence and gravitas.

Not sure how well that'll work in the middle of an election though, if it's even an option the Liberals will consider. And it'd be beyond shitty if all of this led to a social conservative who's testing out using "alternative facts", and who pals around with and employs far-right racists becoming the PM.

yeah, this could be a pretty big deal. guess we'll see.

I don't see the cons gaining many or any votes from this, but they just need the progressive vote to split so they can swoop in. this may accomplish that.

and yeah, count me amazed that this was only unearthed now.

You can't scream close the borders and then point the finger claiming someone else is a racist and think its going to work in your favor

Yeah, Trudeau is clearly not racist he's just dumb. This isn't worse than video of campaigning against same sex marriage. So giant douche still looking better than turd sandwich.

But yeah, this could split the vote on the left.

unless the goal is just to split the progressive vote. if you can characterize one of the progressive leaders as more 'racist' than the others, you might siphon off some of their support. have to think that's the play here. how effective it will be is anyone's guess. the poll numbers I saw yesterday though had both the CPC and Libs gaining at the expense of the fringe parties, so it may not move the needle much.

Its a two party race at this point and unfortunately voting NDP or Green is no different than staying home

Yeah, nobody's going to look at these pics and be like, "you know, I think we should vote for Scheer now". It'd all be about either getting enough Libs upset enough to either stay home or vote NDP instead.

All this also obviously re-inforces his airheadedness, for sure. And combined with his awkward India trip stuff, definitely not a good look. And now with the 3rd video/photo coming out, it just gets a bit tougher and tougher to handle each day. At the very least, his apology this time was definitely the right thing - had he pulled the same sort of wording that he was using for the SNC mess, then he'd be roasted. But we'll have to see how this plays out in the next few days to see the full impact.

I think some might be looking at this through too political a lens.

Brownface/blackface isn't just some political scoring point, it's actually something that is legitimately hurtful to many people, and they will react to it on that level.

The issue is the other guy hates gays and women's rights.
Leftist voters are fluid.

They will vote NDP or Green if they are disenchanted with the liberals.

2011 is the perfect example, they nearly destroyed the liberal party, they didn't give a shit.

And now hes off meeting the people of Winnipeg, taking selfies and shaking hands everywhere.

Smart. When in doubt, get the news to follow you acting like a celeb. Changes the channel, at least for the moment.
