New Canadian Politics Thread

Years of being leafs fans has prepared us for complete devastation and disappointment. I'm ready for anything they throw at me. Even a shock majority. Fuck it. Come at me.

Good guy Leafs!!

Who knew the fact that they’ve thoroughly crushed our spirits and utterly extinguished all our hopes would come in handy for surviving this hellscape of a timeline we all find ourselves living in?

I don't really have a lot of faith that enough people will find it an issue that Pierre is endorsed by Musk, that he parrots Trump's language, that he cozied up to convoyers, that Smith is pushing a pause on tariffs because Pierre is "aligned with America's direction".

I think a lot of people will probably tricked by the blatantly transparent "Trump wants Carney to win because weak" thing, because people are fucking dumb.

The collapse of the NDP will be more important imo

To be fair, the outcome was within the margin of error. I , like others was fooled by the massive turnouts at her events compared to Trump.

I was huffing all of the hopium and I'm not even close to embarrassed about it. The alternative was too grim...and here we are.

I would huff the hopium on a 50% chance an asteroid was going to hit the planet too, sue me.

Reasons to be worried (maybe not so much)

- Liberal fatigue (but the cpc and other right wingers tied this all to Trudeau for years and carney is an outsider)

- American fuckery (luckily we better campaign funding rules, the campaign is short )

- Polling under representing maga or right wingers

Reasons to be hopeful (but maybe not so much)

- NDP collapse (maybe they get some movement back in key areas)

- CPC does not seem to have an answer for the shift from Trudeau (still time to figure it out)

- Trump has rallied Canadians and PP doesn't seem to have an answer for getting traditional cons and maga shits

- popular local Candidates running for liberals (maybe the vibes are wrong)

- as a base NDP guy even I'm thinking of voting liberal based on merit not just strategically

With trump's shit this is the most important Canadian election of my life. The stakes are high and that definitely causes anxiety

Even before that comment, when I was talking politics with my dad and some of his center/right buddies a few weeks back, they were all utterly flabbergasted by my belief that Poilievre would kowtow to Trump.

They all took it as a given that, policy disagreements aside, of course anyone could see & agree that a tough guy Conservative and longtime attack dog like PP would be the best person to stand up to Trump and the toughest possible negotiator. Especially when compared to some namby-pamby left-winger.

So I’m sure they and a lot of people inclined to think that way will uncritically take that Trump comment as confirmation of that belief.

Wait, you’re hoping for an asteroid to wipe out human civilization too? I thought it was just me!

He didn’t even distance himself from the Musk endorsement and was pretty fucking quiet initially when Trump started his 51st state stuff.

Cons are gonna con. Liberals not bleeding support is enough to form a minority. NDP bleeding is enough for a majority.
