But since they’re already into LTIR, I guess that can’t be it. Maybe they just weren’t sure whether one of the D who dressed last night would be ready to go?

The problem Matthews has here is that OV scored 50 goals at 36-37 years old. That's an entirely different feat.

To be fair i'm not even sure i'd love watching Matthews become the kind of goalsucking puckhog ovy has been the past few years, with his whole team not even trying to do anything but up his goal totals.

The thing is tho if he can get back to his typical 60+ pace these next few years he gives himself a nice healthy buffer ahead of ovechkin's totals to fall off from.

And to be honest i still think that Auston is at some point going to really go off on the PP for a few years too. He hasn't really done that yet, for a number of different reasons.
