No Excuses No Limits! The mother fucking goddamn season thread

With Klingberg: 14gms, 46.6xgf%
W/O Klingberg: 13gms, 52.5xgf%

Much better, but still just good, not great.

Hopefully Reaves being out for a while makes the 4th line less of a black hole. That line is at 45.6xgf% with McMann on it, which is pretty solid for dzone-only duty, and way better than the 34.7% they're at with Reaves, so hopefully that keeps up.

But we probably won't get back to elite on the nerdies until Mitch gets his game back. At the moment he's all the way down to 45.4xgf%, which is pretty insane given he's usually in the 55-60% range.

I don't remember exactly when Matthews and Marner were split up, but over the last couple weeks, since Dec.1, Matthews is back at his typical elite nerdies at 58.9xgf%, while Marner is rivalling the 4th line's awfulness at 35.1%. I think the question of who was responsible for the top line struggling has been answered by now.

In fact, he's been worse than the 4th liners in december:

1. Karnkrok 59.4
2. Matthews 58.9
3. Knies 55.4
4. McMann 55.0
5. Domi 53.0
6. Robertson 52.5
7. Nylander 50.7
8. Bertuzzi 50.1
9. Tavares 47.2
10. Gregor 41.3
11. Kampf 37.5
12. Marner 35.1
13. Reaves 26.2
I see his skating having taken a hit - not quick, elusive, shifty, and dangling. Gets caught way more than ever, isn’t even trying his usual tricks. I don’t know what he’s been doing differently, but he needs to get back into his old routine.

He's the ultimate value trap. Such a useful fucking player, though I'd argue he's way more valuable on the current roster than he was in last years. He provides something completely different than basically any one of their forwards. The ultimate glue guy. I'm prepared to be disappointed in the playoffs, but I'm admittedly falling for him hard right now.

Hes been great, but if he does the same thing in the playoffs that he's done the rest of his career, we will have wasted a season relying on him instead of finding a replacement glue guy.

Jarnkrok has definitely been much better than he was at any point last year, from game 1 this year and pretty much perfectly consistently the whole season so far. Much better even than his productive stint on the top line last year. Not enough to depend on yet but sure seems there's been real sustained improvement.

Improvement this regular season or not, I would still put plenty of money on the 32 year-old who’s been dogshit in 9 previous NHL playoff runs being dogshit again in playoff run #10.

Jonas and Mirtle used to be the "smart ones" but their thinking never really advanced past CORSI and as they're not great writers to start with there's nothing left to offer. I listen to podcast constantly - I wish there was a halfway decent leafs option to throw on in the background.

The crazy thing is zeke's analysis on Marner today was basically the entire story for the leafs and I don't really read the athletic but I don't think it's been written about?

It really explains their entire struggles. If you want to toss in that they could use a muzzin replacement top pair d too, go ahead. But this one was a reach I think and it's very obviously entirely related to weird dubas spite.

really the the only 3 concerning things that are worth discussing:

1) Sammy being poopy
2) kampf usage
3) Marner being garb

Maybe you can add the D to the discussion but that’s mostly an injury thing at this point - lagersson and Benoit are proving to be really good 8-9 depth guys.
