No Excuses No Limits! The mother fucking goddamn season thread

One thing that hasn't really been mentioned much with Willy is that this is actually the first year in his career that he's been given legit "top line" ice time, with over 20mpg. Still not top star ice time but a big bump from his previous career high 18:33 last year (1.06ppg) and 18:16 the year before (0.99ppg) and 16:36 the year before that (0.82ppg).

And last year was the first year in his career he got over 3min of pptoi per game.

His rate stats haven't really changed all that much.

But only after they sign Mitch at 12+ of course.

I’m going to Uno reverse your “oh my sweet summer child”, because I don’t think there’s a chance in hell Mitchy boy & Paul will be accepting any contract extension that doesn’t have an AAV starting with 13.

They might go an extra year or two more than Auston’s four, but Paul will not countenance his special boy having a lower number than Matthews.

His production rate stats are up quite a bit this year (1.68 g/60 and 4.3 g/60 all situations). He’s never really been close to that.

But his SH% isn’t up at all and his on ice sh% is only up a bit (9% vs mid 8s). So it’s not crazy, unsustainable production.

He’s really not producing above his talent level. Consistency was always his issue. But this level of consistency may be hard to maintain. He’s had no slumps this year.

I don't love betting against the guy but they probably should have bet against this production for the rest of the season + playoffs and wait to sign him later. It is what it is. He's a Leaf for a long ass time, possibly for his entire career. He's sexy. He's fun to watch. I'll keep enjoying him.

Last 4yrs rate stats by game situation

5v5

20-21: 0.88g/60, 1.85p1/60, 2.21p/60 --- 14.21icf/60, 0.96ixg/60
21-22: 0.96g/60, 1.97p1/60, 2.13p/60 --- 17.22icf/60, 0.82ixg/60
22-23: 1.17g/60, 1.86p1/60, 2.61p/60 --- 18.96icf/60, 1.08ixg/60
23-24: 1.23g/60, 2.01p1/60, 2.45p/60 --- 18.08icf/60, 1.01ixg/60

solid but not huge bump up the last two years, but supported by a bump up in the underlying numbers.

5v4

20-21: 2.72g/60, 4.36p1/60, 6.53p/60 --- 19.05icf/60, 2.38ixg/60
21-22: 3.13g/60, 5.47p1/60, 7.55p/60 --- 25.79icf/60, 2.31ixg/60
22-23: 1.88g/60, 4.39p1/60, 5.23p/60 --- 25.10icf/60, 2.37ixg/60
23-24: 2.91g/60, 5.82p1/60, 8.25p/60 --- 39.80icf/60, 2.81ixg/60

slightly higher assist rates than usual this year but really the underlying numbers have an even bigger improvement this year here so maybe we should expect even better PP production than he's done so far.

Happy for Willy, love that guy. But he was previously the most under-the-radar of the big 4 because of his contract (or atleast, there with JT for whatever reason). That's done now. Media and your uncles will be out for blood whenever he slumps or turns the puck over now. Luckily that kind of thing doesn't seem to affect him at all.

Those signing bonuses are crazy. He'll be easy to move later if need be.
"Taxes" LOL. His Rogers/TTC commercial pays more than you'd get in tax savings
