No Excuses No Limits! The mother fucking goddamn season thread

Not sure i can really separate the stress from the enjoyment. It's all part of the fun imo.

No stress here! I feel more relaxed than ever and those first two games have been incredible entertainment. Just keeping an eye on some things that may need to be addressed at some point! It's enjoyable for me to pick apart things that could use improvement and speculate on how that can be done... Goaltending, defense, etc. Playing GM is a fun part of fanning. But even in the absence of elite d or goaltending they're a pretty pretty pretty good team of course!

They haven’t even been very good yet, several pieces still needing to click, and they had a crazy comeback win and then crushed the next opponent. I’m not all that worried, and know they’ll be D shopping later anyway.

also kinda gonna hold back on drawing too many conclusions from the nerdies until around the 15 game mark or so.

keep em coming of course but i like to be patient there too.

Story of the first 2 games for me was confirmation bias at play. Two spots I didn't hate but had questions about (defending and goaltending) have not answered any of those questions just yet. So I'm not necessarily drawing conclusions here; much of it was my existing beliefs/concerns not really being answered just yet and if anything playing out like I expected. But early games are always wacky and can yield some weird results. I know they'll tighten up at some point.

But anyway, analyzing games is fun, otherwise what are we doing here.

I assume you've rewatched both games at least 4 times.

Not the Habs game. Even I couldn't take anything out of that one against the most irrelevant, meaningless team in NHL history. But the 2nd game, yeah. Watching it right now for the 6th time actually.

True, but this year in particular, thanks to years prior, just feels different.

Myself, the first 60 games are just to enjoy...after the deadline will obviously matter, how the team is playing the last ten games matter, injuries always matter, but the team will be different and the players will have adjusted by the time the playoffs are coming.

It's true. Every team goes way over the cap by the deadline and supercharges their teams these days anyway. No one is a finished product at this point. They all have holes and most of those holes will be filled by the deadline using salary retention, LTIR space, etc. But speculating what the Leafs may do to fill those holes can be fun.

I mean, yeah, there’s definitely still going to be stress. Both about the season as a whole and during individual games.

It’s just that I’m going to try and enjoy the regular season as its own entertaining thing rather than constantly viewing through the lens of playoff doom & gloom, as I’ve been doing a lot of in recent years.

Well in fairness I don't see anyone doing that about the Leafs around here other than you! Jays, yes. But Leafs, not as much.

i'm still on team minten for sure. even in game 1 where he looked nervous he still did a bunch of good things even if the nerdies were a disaster. last game was legit good.

and I'm not actually sure they care too much about the 9gm mark. he's not going to be a top liner anytime soon so burning a year of ELC could actually work out well if it means his 2nd contract is signed before a big offensive breakout.

Think some fans think of patience only in terms of leaving kids down until they're this perfect complete package which is silly.
