No Excuses No Limits! The mother fucking goddamn season thread

This shouldn't be a big deal, for either of them if Sheldon rotated players in and out the lineup regularly. Noah Gregor doesn't need to play every game. Robertson shouldn't be sitting for 2 weeks straight. Gio is ancient and doesn't need to play every night. Timmins shouldn't be banished for what feels like half of the season.

Super duper easy to "scratch" someone when the media and fans are used to you rotating players in and out for normal rest. Keeps everyone sharp and healthier instead of wearing down old boys like Gio, and getting into the heads of younger guys trying to establish themselves like Robbie & Timmins.

An approach many of us have advocated for years…

The entire industry seems to operate as if this upcoming game is game 7 of a playoff series and you need to have your preferred, optimized lineup every night to stand a chance of winning.

As an industry, hockey really needs to take a page out of the NBA and European Football. The NBA maybe took "load management" a bit too serious but the underlying philosophy is that if you know you're going to make the playoffs, that you're managing your roster with that as the goal. Have everyone healthy and ready for the shit that really matters.

In European football, you have a preferred squad for different competition. If you need to rest a handful of starters against a mid tier league opponent because you have a champions league match in 4 days, that's what you do. League Cup? Play the kids, etc, etc.

There's no reason to not manage your roster in the NHL strategically.

Stop saying shit that makes sense.

I really really try to understand the logic that goes into these decisions, as we have to assume the team has a lot more information than we do.

But nothing about this Samsonov situation makes any fucking sense on any conceivable level, other than the (mildly) bold move of running him through waivers in the first place, which was successful and gave them a perfect opportunity for him to find his game out of the spotlight which they then completely reversed before he played a single minute lol.
