No Excuses No Limits! The mother fucking goddamn season thread

He’ll go the way of Zach Aston-Reese. A depth guy that went straight from one of Keefe’s favourites to out of the NHL.

It's turning into a bit of a fucking express lane isn't it. Goalies, coaches, and coaches pets. From the Toronto spotlight to out of the league in a hurry.

I don’t see how fourth liners will typically be much better or worse than Gregor. He has speed, he scores the occasional goal, and doesn’t screw up much. The thing is, on this team, him and his linemates shouldn’t play more than 5-6 minutes.

A new coach would breathe life into this roster. Keefe is milk gone bad and stinking up the fridge.

Also he’s like a bottom 2-3percentile player who gets matchups against top lines.

I get the rationale of trying to save up the big guns energy for offense by avoiding dzone starts but matching Gregor against top lines is cuckoo.

It's honestly pretty wild how easy this roster is to put together, and how Sheldon stubbornly refuses to do what makes sense.

All because David Kampf is for some reason the only player on his team he trusts to play defence, so he refuses to play his thoroughly mediocre 4th line like the thoroughly mediocre 4th line it is.

I've never seen a coach have such a massive personnel meltdown over not being given a 3rd line that checks.

I genuinely think this is just what naturally happens when a former plug of a player becomes a coach.

I don't think the ego allows him to manage the talent the way he should, and so he has this dumb fuck soft spot for every shitty plug.

I swear, he probably plays the top lines as much as he does out of protest. Like, he knows he can't get away with not playing them much, or he would.

AT THE HALFWAY POINT:

- good not great offense
- average defense
- below average goaltending

Silver lining: the problem areas (Samsonov, Klingberg, Reaves, 4th line) are very severe and very clearcut, which makes them more easily fixable - and some have been self-fixed already with Klingberg and Reaves out, and Woll and Jones taking over in net. We've already seen massive improvements in the nerdies from ~45% over the first ~15gms to closer to 55% ever since. Still have yet to show greatness but they're showing it's still in there somewhere.

pretty disappointing first half for this fan.

and Dom > Tre.

has Reaves been Robidas'd?

Tre's FA record's not looking much better than Dubie's to start off... although Bertuzzi has been excellent and I like Domi.

Good but only Good: Bert, Domi, Benoit, Jones, only 1yr for Sammy
Bad but very Bad: Klingberg, Reaves, Gregor, Kampf*

* = i think Kampf contract is probably Keefe's fault

yeah there's no way I'm paying 6 million or whatever for Bertuzzi after this year

7% shooting, 9.5% oish is maybe a buying opportunity on multi year though.

My only concern is that his SH% was way below career average last year too. Is there a hand/wrist injury on his medicals? Wondering if this is a skill level that's not coming back, or just weird 70-90 game stretch.

Love Bert's nerdies but he's gonna do better than a 38 point pace.
Yup. He’s been okay, just okay. I was expecting an easy 30 goals. My more optimistic take would’ve been 40 or more.

I don’t think he’d be a great long term guy at the money he wants. And like last year, I don’t know that anyone would give it to him anyway.
