No Excuses No Limits! The mother fucking goddamn season thread

I do wonder what he would have done.. Really sounded like he was leaning strongly towards trading Willy or Marner in that final presser. Wouldn't have gotten great value for Willy but trading Marner could have been interesting.

The thing about Dom's article though (based on the quotes posted here) is that he doesn't mention the actual biggest sinkholes on the team this year, and how much better the nerdies have looked without them.

I read the whole thing and confirm that he did not.

Which he really should have, cause then he could toot his own horn!

And again, I'm not sure how much it actually matters. But as a fan its brutal hearing that shit over and over.

The players this market has fallen in love with are all the super intense, win at all cost types.

Yeah, tbh i think we have to turn two of Willy, Marner, and Tavares into two of those guys. Matthews is chill but special, and has learned to amp up the physicality in the playoffs. If Marner has legit gotten slower, he and cap are the easy two who can go imo.

There was nothing really shocking in there. The core 4 have been worse. Everyone else has been worse. We know that.

The how bad Brodie stuff is was interesting though. And I buy that taking him off the ice with the Core 4 will make those guys better.

also, no one seems to be talking about how legit Edmonton's nerdies are looking this year.

I shudder to say it, but they kinda look like a powerhouse, assuming good Skinner keeps stopping pucks.

Sure, but the anchor its dragging is Dubie's coaches usage of Dubie's 3/4C
that Tre resigned to a stupid deal...

Dubie doesn't get a pass. I was ready to move on from him after the insane deadline last year.

But Tre's tenure is not off to a very encouraging start.

Toews, Lindholm, Chychrun, Ekholm. One of Kyle's duties was to replace Muzzin/find a guy that can protect the Leafs from a Brodie crater. He did not do that despite having a clear opportunity to at not that crazy of a cost. Then Tre decided that 4m on a d should be spent on Klingberg, though it's not like many great d got moved in the summer. They both have some blame there.

Tavares declining is just unfortunate timing. And Marner randomly sucking is just weird. This is all ignoring the 4th line shit but tbh the biggest issue for me is the big boys not earning their pay from a nerdie perspective like in prior years. You can't have that. You'll never win.

the one thing that stood out to me in Dom's 16 stats was how many other teams fucking play and rely upon their young players. not even guys like Lilly, pure fucking rookies getting top-4 ice time.

why the fuck do we never even try this? we seem determined to fritter away or waste whatever young talent outside the big four that we have, and it's fucking infuriating.

I think the makers of Tavares are working on a really good update patch
