No Excuses No Limits! The mother fucking goddamn season thread

I saw it several times that night and it looked like a pretty lucky pass that got through (and most players on the receiving end would flub that unless they are studs), same with the first one but that was more intentional than not.

Lucky passes from a guy with 250 NHL assists, but not lucky finishes, gotcha.

There's also the pressure factor. It's one thing to do stuff in practice and another to do it under time and space constraints.

Yes, Max is very fortunate that after tossing a pin point 40 foot backhand pass through a tiny gap between sticks that Knies could, with an incredible amount of time and space do something that most moderately talented NHL shooters can do.

Fun story. Timmy and I were at a game a bunch of years ago, great seats behind the Leafs net, and in warm ups watch Wade fucking Belak take laps and on each lap casually roof daddy a wrister dead in the corner. Like 4-5 times in a row with nothing resembling a miss. Completely unrelated to my original point of course.

As for the 2nd goal, lovely play by Knies but that wasn't a bad pass. Max put it under the shin pad of the defender

That's literally the only place he could have put it to get it through. A few inches further up it hits the knee, a few inches back, the skate.

Beautiful play by both.

yeah both passes by Domi were pretty sweet. that was the only way to get it through for the 2nd one and kudos to Knies for making a great play to get it off his skate and up so quickly. But i didn't think Domi had any chance to get that pass through - i thought the play was to put it off the goalie or try to lead knies for a backpost tap in but i didn't really think there was room for that either.

on the first Domi pass I think I want to credit Kampf too for lifting his stick and letting that pass go through to Knies a la Mario Lemieux. But maybe Kampf just missed it.

All great passes require some luck. But that's Domi's bread and butter. He makes a lot of great passes that often require some luck to work out (it's also a knock on him, as some of his passes can be low percentage). But when they work out, it looks beautiful. And when he's cold and not really feelin' it, things might look ugly as they did earlier in the year. But he was always better than that obviously.

My biggest issue with Reaves right now is that he's currently playing every game. And tbh, when he does play he's getting too much icetime. He really should only be getting 5 minutes max. He's horrendous. If you want to dress him against teams who are dressing a useless slug themselves, have at it. But you just can't play the guy every single night because it will sink them. They have the ability to dress two very playable, half decent, semi skill lines in the bottom six. Instead 1 of those lines is always gonna suck ass automatically.

Poor Gregor because I really think he's been good and he's potentially a better player than Lafferty but it's hard to know since he's attached to the worst player in the NHL.

Thing is tho there's pretty good remedy for this - use that 4th line to double shift a guy like Willy for example.

That's what I mean when I say he should be playing 5 minutes per night max. Someone else should get those excess minutes.

I don't know his body of work well enough to know if those kinds of passes are frequent or rare. We'll find out as we go.

Incredibly racist post.

Have you seen him try to shoot? The word muffin doesn't do it justice. He's a pure playmaker and has been a pretty good one throughout his career. Those passes are absolutely his "thing."

Meh, I mean I kind of never thought he was particularly great at anything, so if what we saw in game 5 is more representative of what he can do that in the prior games, I'll definitely accept those two passes the other night were less luck and more skill.

Because I actually forgot about Kampf on that first one - on the replays I did wonder if Domi intended to give it to him instead? And on the second one, I mean, that's just a pass with a hope and prayer it goes through, and it didn't land on his stick, so it took an amazing play by Knies to make it work. If it were me, I'd have tried a soft saucer over the guy to land it in front of him.
