No Excuses No Limits! The mother fucking goddamn season thread

Leafs score well in the third overall, however on the road they are way outscoring their opponents and at home, getting outscored.

Reason #321 for why the Leafs should avoid passing the Panthers.

that is pretty bizarre.

scoring and scoring against by period is near identical home and away, except for goals against in the 3rd period, which is DOUBLE at home what it is on the road.

Leafs are 23-4-1 when leading after 1.

34-3-3 when leading after 2.

Some of that is from OT wins though after blowing the lead but still winning the game.

Oct 11 v MTL: 3-2 Lead after the 2nd, gave up 3 in the 3rd but scored 2 to tie and won in OT
Nov 10 v CGY: 2-1 Lead after 1, 4-1 lead by 5 minutes into the 2nd. Calgary ties 4-4 we win in shootout
Nov 19 v Minn: 2-1 lead after 2, 3-1 lead early 3rd, Minnesota scores 2 in the 3rd to tie, we win in OT
Nov 30 v Sea: 3-1 lead after 2, Seattle scores 2 in the 3rd, we win in SO
Feb 15 v PHI: 3-1 lead after 2, Philly scores 2 in the 3rd, we win in OT
March 2 v NYR: 2-2 after 2, we score at 8 minutes of 3rd. NYR scores with 2 minutes left to tie. We win in SO
April 8 v Pitt: We just watched it last night.

This is in no way meant to be comparative. I don't know how this compares to other teams and their ability to hold leads. Just pointing out that someone who doesn't have a warm and fuzzy feeling watching this team go into a defensive shell in the 3rd isn't crazy even if the results works out in the end somehow.

fwiw, that's just the blown leads that went to OT. I'm sure there are more than we've scored our way out of in regulation.

Is it pure coaching? Or just sampling randomness?

Down 4-1 with a minute to go, that's the face of a guy praying to get three Kampfs and two Baboonskins to deploy all at once.

So.....if I take each subset, turn it into a full-game stat, and rank it against league total stats (not against per-period stats because that's too much work)....

Home Offense: P1 2.69 (#28), P2 4.39 (#1), 3.46 (#1)
Home Defense: P1 2.31 (#1), P2 3.39 (#26), P3 4.08 (#32)

Road Offense: P1 3.08 (#17), P2 3.95 (#1), 3.47 (#1)
Road Defense: P1 2.61 (#5), P2 3.47 (#28), P3 2.05 (#1)

So we this weird thing where we're play super defensive hockey with no offense in the 1st periods, and wide open hockey with no defense in the 2nd periods, both at home and on the road.

In the third periods, we're awesome offensively at home and on the road. But somehow we're amazing defensively in road 3rds, and horrific defensively in home 3rds.

or by goal differential:

Home: P1 +0.39 (#11), P2 +1.00 (#1), P3 -0.62 (#28)
Road: P1 +0.47 (#11), P2 +0.47 (#11), P3 +1.42 (#1)

lol what the fuck

Probably just a coincidence.

After 10 years of playing shit over young/good and hard matching crap against best, then I'd have to start suspecting something. But not quite there yet.
