I get that he was busy last year and didn't watch 82 Leafs games, but looking like they're generating chances when they gain the zone isn't the problem. Tavares is a boat anchor on entries, retrieval and was a poor finisher by the %'s last year on the PP. Mitch is maybe the most predictable player in the league when he's in space so you can just let him dance on the outside and play the passing lanes. Mo isn't a threat to shoot at all so you know the puck is moving to one of the flanks. It's all very predictable and when we do get a chance in the slot it's JT firing it into the goalies chest (again, before the usual people get their panties in a knot, JT's shooting% on PP HD chances last season was like 10%, turrible).
I'm going to say this again, what I've been saying for a few years now. We have the best set of goal scoring hands in the universe playing 40 feet from the net the entire PP. Matthews should be net front or at minimum bumper the way Tampa uses Point. Having him on the half boards the entire PP almost eliminates the benefit just his gravity has. He's not an Ovy type goal scorer from out there but if you're going to use him out there, start featuring the one timer the way Washington structured their PP around Ovy. There's no point having him out there otherwise.
