No Excuses No Limits! The mother fucking goddamn season thread

One interesting thing is that it does seem like Kampf actually is a fine 4C when he's not being used as some extreme tough-usage shutdown checking center type.

That still isn't worth $2.4m tho.

I get that he was busy last year and didn't watch 82 Leafs games, but looking like they're generating chances when they gain the zone isn't the problem. Tavares is a boat anchor on entries, retrieval and was a poor finisher by the %'s last year on the PP. Mitch is maybe the most predictable player in the league when he's in space so you can just let him dance on the outside and play the passing lanes. Mo isn't a threat to shoot at all so you know the puck is moving to one of the flanks. It's all very predictable and when we do get a chance in the slot it's JT firing it into the goalies chest (again, before the usual people get their panties in a knot, JT's shooting% on PP HD chances last season was like 10%, turrible).

I'm going to say this again, what I've been saying for a few years now. We have the best set of goal scoring hands in the universe playing 40 feet from the net the entire PP. Matthews should be net front or at minimum bumper the way Tampa uses Point. Having him on the half boards the entire PP almost eliminates the benefit just his gravity has. He's not an Ovy type goal scorer from out there but if you're going to use him out there, start featuring the one timer the way Washington structured their PP around Ovy. There's no point having him out there otherwise.

Ya, he’s also he much more effective than Tavares on the wall, retrieving pucks on zone entries.

Our forward depth is maybe the best it's been in these eight years, but there's a massive drop once you get to Lorentz and then that fourth line.

They need to have another true top 6 winger, and MaxPac isn't the answer for me, to slot in ahead of McMann, to push McMann down one line, to push Lorentz down to the fourth line, to push Reaves straight the fuck out of the lineup.

4v5 PK

Lorentz 2:24, 5.94xga/60
Holmberg 2:14, 8.11xga/60

Marner 1:55, 6.11xga/60
Matthews 1:39, 4.39xga/60

Knies 1:39, 7.81xga/60
Kampf 1:38, 10.86xga/60

Robertson 0:16, 5.43xga/60

Tanev 3:19, 7.16xga/60
McCabe 3:15, 5.47xga/60

Benoit 2:14, 9.59xga/60
Timmins 2:05 9.27xga/60 --- Liljegren 1:53, 5.43xga/60

OEL 0:57, 3.58xga/60

I'm sure Myers slides into that 2nd PK pair tonight.

Not sure who slides into Holmberg's slot with Lorentz. One of Kampf or Knies will bump up there I'm sure, but then on the 3rd pair i'm not sure,.

the only other forward who has even a minute of PK time so far this year is Robertson. I thought he did a good job on the 2-3 pk shifts he had. Would be cool if he's the guy who moves onto the 3rd unit.

I’m glad he isn’t getting the chance under a new coach and new system to show what he can do. Also, there hasn’t been an opportunity to really get him into the lineup since we’ve just been mowing through some of the best teams in the league.

For sure. Also doesn't really make sense to switch up the lineup when we've been so successful to start the season.

That's the thing, you always have to see what you've got. Can't just let a guy rot there, especially when he's 27 and you got him for free.

It's not like Myers is some guy we can just easily pick up with a mid 1st rounder or anything. Had to wait for him to go UFA and then pounce.
