No Excuses No Limits! The mother fucking goddamn season thread

I hate trading down and wish not doing it would turn into some guiding principle like best player available.

Nothing worse than seeing exciting players available at your pick, and then just passing on the opportunity to take your shot on two guys a full round later. That said, no problem trading down when it's in the second round or later, or when you're only dropping a few picks. But these 20th for 37 and 59 deals can fuck off.

Nah, it's usually the right move, especially if you're an organization that depletes it's picks at the deadline like we do. Once you get outside of the top 10-15 picks, there is likely a prospect who is going to be as good or better in the NHL within the next 10-15 picks. Trade down, get the extra assets.

For example, you've already brought up the 2015 draft. Aho is way better than Konecny and went one pick after ours.

2016 was the Auston draft...but had we traded down on that 31st pick, Sam Girard and Carter Hart went 47, 48
2017 was Lilly...we definitely could have traded down and ended up with more value for the organization

etc, etc.

Had we taken Aho (Taken 1 pick after Dermott), no one would care that we traded down. More bullets > Less bullets but you still have to hit your shots.

In general, I’m OK with the strategy.

But passing on guy who turned out to be a consistent 25-30 goal/50-60 point player (who was the consensus BPA at our original pick at the time) for a couple of complete busts is a hell of a whiff.

And the fact that Dubas still easily could have won the deal by taking Aho and failed to makes me feel worse, not better. All the skilled midgets that Dubas drafted, and that’s the guy he passes on?

I mean, if we fucked the two picks we had, why does anyone think we would have taken Konecny and not Noah Juulsen or some shit?

Dubas was shit. He had this board wrapped around his finger with fraudulent nerdiness. Fuck him.

Robertson should be moved for something that the coach would find more use for. Another top 4 defender would be a good piece of business and really round out the depth chart. Another C goes without saying.

This board likes to rail on Tree but I think he’s had a solid start to his leafs tenure. Already like him better than that fraud piece of shit Dubas.

A couple of things

- You're not getting anything for Robertson. More like a mid round pick, not a mid pairing defender.
- Tree has also sucked. His first summer was pretty shit considering Klingberg, Reaves, and playing hardball with Willy all turned out so brutal. This last season he made the blueline better but really old and he's doing the Willy thing again, but with Mitch this time and it's going to cost him more money again.

Better than Dubas? Nah. Worse than Dubas? Also nah. Both are pretty shit.

This has been one of the best teams in the league for many years now, and is again this year. So despite some definite issues, your statement is demonstrably untrue.

Eh, tough to start with a base of what either started with and not be a 100+ point team. Dubas inherited a 105 point team whose best players were Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Kadri, & Rielly and left as a 111 point team whose best players were Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Tavares, and Rielly. Treebitch took over a 111 point team and turned it into a 102 point team with this season pending and his best addition is what? 35 yr old Tanev?
