No Excuses No Limits! The mother fucking goddamn season thread

O'reilly would be a great 3C fit. Keep him as 3C.
Sure we want a young up and comer, but every name brought up can get crapped on by anyone on here.

Oreilly-- Pros familiar with team, familiar with coach, big body, can score, sound defensively, can win face offs., experience, cup winner, tough to play against
Cons: slower, older

I'd do some shenanigans where if it doesn't work out at the end of the playoffs, you trade him back to the preds .... think of it as a loaner deal.

You could probably make a deal that is conditional based on rounds won in the playoffs.

You then have to take Schenn.... but I would see if you could use Minten for a puck moving guy. I'm keeping Cowen.

I think it's kinda funny that O'Reilly is likely the legit best available center, will likely be cheaper than some of the lesser alternatives, and this board would absolutely hate it if we got him.

I'd be good with him. He was good here the first time around, and we play a slow, grindy, shitty style that he can keep up with.

Yeah, so weird that, only two years after lighting a boatload of high-end trade assets on fire to acquire an old slow guy who didn’t want to be here, didn’t want to fill the role we needed him for and then left at the earliest opportunity, that we don’t want to light another boatload of high end trade assets on fire to re-acquire that same even older, even slower guy who still doesn’t want to play here and still doesn’t want to fill the role we need him for.

We’re so silly!

funny that colorado already trying to unload mittelstadt tho.

especially since they believe so strongly in spreading money on depth rather than on an elite guy like rantanen.
With the talk of many owners not spending to the cap when it gets so high in 2-3 seasons, I'll be interested if Colorado even spends to the cap max. If not, it was about actual money and not cap.

I really think he's too slow. I thought that in 23' with him and Tavares down the middle. Not sure if I'm alone in this, but I'm tired of this team getting slower with almost all moves.

100%.

I’m also sick of the annual exclusive pursuit of old guys and/or rentals.

At this point, if we make any moves, I want to to be for guys that have prime years left along with at least a couple years of control.

If that type of player isn’t available, I’d prefer standing pat and not making any moves at all to going back to the well for another old-guy-rental.

ROR wouldn't be a rental.

and why do you guys think the leafs are slow.

they've got a couple of slow guys.

this board would love it. problem is, ROR would hate it.

I like ror and would love to grab him even though he has no interest playing here. But it sure would be nice to see them do another McCabe type deal. Even if it's for a center. Those are the deals that move needles on a longer term basis.

He wouldn’t be a rental, but since we’d be acquiring his age 34, 35 & 36 seasons, he would very much be an old guy.

And a team with both him and Tavares up the middle would very much be a slow team, even if you have some speed in other parts of the lineup.

And again—the guy doesn’t want to play here. And he doesn’t particularly care about competing for another Cup either. Considering his immediate reaction after only 24 games here was to run screaming to a mediocre team on the cusp of a rebuild in an anonymous non-hockey market.

Absolutely love that he's actually taking a look at Matthews without an elite linemate. Matthews was dancing last game.

Hopefully matthews keeps it up. Coach ending his matthews-marner addiction would be huge. You can always reunite them in an emergency, but they do not need each other on a shift by shift basis.
