Other fun fact.......that was 6 years ago

I wouldn't mind seeing him on the second line or up with Mathews for a bit.
Make the third line of Holmberg in the middle with Domi and Mcmann for these next two games to see

If Karlsson can be had at 50% retention then yup..

But I would love Byram is the real get. 3.9 with cup experience. the guy is +11 on Buffalo!! Shoots left though if that matters.

Rumours are of Jones to Florida. That I don't like. but he's been crap for sooo long.

Based on Dom's breakdown of each, my wish list is:

Top targets: Nelson, Murphy
Depth targets: Carlo, Bjustad, Evans, Greenway

Brock Nelson: There’s a good chance whoever snags Nelson wins the deadline. He’s that good. Nelson flies a little under the radar on Long Island, but he’s proven to be a consistently strong needle-mover. He can put the puck in the net to a high degree and can outscore opponents like clockwork. His projected Net Rating of plus-7.5 would make him one of the stronger 2Cs come playoff time — a huge advantage for a contender.
Nelson has been much quieter this season with just 17 goals and 37 points in 57 games, but that has more to do with the team’s completely dysfunctional power play than it does him. At five-on-five, Nelson has kept up with where he’s been the past three seasons, scoring 0.94 goals per 60 and 2.24 points per 60 — both top-line rates. On a contending team he’s the ideal second-line center, but league-wide he’s arguably one of the 32 best around.
What jumps out with Nelson most is his total impact with the puck. This year, he has one of the highest scoring chance contribution rates as an elite shooter and passer. He’s heavily involved in retrieving pucks in his own zone and is elite at turning those into clean exits — a trait often found in the league’s top defensive centers. Nelson is a defensively responsible player who makes sure his team doesn’t have to defend often and does well at turning pucks up ice, too.
Nelson can move the needle in a big way for a contender and though his production may not sizzle the same as in years past, he’s still probably worth the high cost to acquire.

Connor Murphy: While not quite the caliber of player Jake McCabe was at the time, there’s similar defensive upside in extracting Murphy out of Chicago. His projected Defensive Rating of plus-3.0 is the best on the board and stems from an ability to suppress chances throughout his career. Every season, Murphy’s teams have allowed fewer chances with him on the ice compared to off. This season’s 0.29 fewer expected goals against per 60 is close to a career best.

Murphy doesn’t play shutdown minutes and his puck skills aren’t the best — offensively, he won’t bring much to the table. But he looks like the best bet out there for a team that needs a defensive stopper on its second pair.

Brandon Carlo: There was a time when Carlo was a no doubt top-four shutdown defender, but the last two seasons haven’t been kind. Carlo still projects to be a positive defensive influence due to his prior work there in difficult minutes. But his limited puck skill means he either needs to play with a puck-mover, or further down the lineup. He’s been exposed a bit without Hampus Lindholm next to him and has a 44 percent xG rate this season. Carlo does have the strongest penalty-kill impact of any defender available.

Jordan Greenway: Need a winger who often keeps the puck as far away from the opponent’s net as possible? Greenway is your guy. He posts strong defensive numbers every season, usually as a result of his forechecking ability. He’s the perfect player for a checking line.

Nick Bjugstad: A potential fourth-line luxury. While Bjugstad may not be as impactful as he was the last time he was a trade target, he’s still a player who can play his shift to a draw. In the bottom six, that’s a win. Over the last two seasons, Bjugstad has been really helpful at getting pucks out of his own zone.

Jake Evans: Defensively sound with some scoring punch — what more could you ask from a bottom-six center? Evans is savvy at getting pucks out and would be a strong fourth-line upgrade for any team.

I've liked Murphy as well. I hope the islanders and Lou may look at some of the guys that were here during his time and may accept a package.

Yeah Nelson is realgud and from the sounds of it won't command the same price as some others.

On defense though....i know why all these guys keep talking about defensive dmen but the leafs obviously have a bigger need for skilled D.

Karlsson would be the ideal candidate but where does that put Mo? Do you knock him down to the third pairing and let him cook with sheltered minutes?
