He's got 4 goals and 7 even strength points in 9 AHL games this year which is very good. I kinda wanna eliminate PP points when evaluating AHL stats since he'll never get on PP1 anyway, 5 on 5 is generally the best way to evaluate how good a player is and obviously 5 on 5 is where they need help.

Very good start for him though. He has conquered the AHL. Nothing else to learn there I think. Just stay healthy and learn to work with and adapt to NHL pace.
 
Maybe, but the 3rd line no longer has Kampf. Domi and the safety net glue guy Jarnkrok, in cush easy minutes should be more than enough for him to do his thing. In his peak, I've always seen him as a guy who could drive a 3rd line offensively more than a guy who plays well with others/complements the big boys. With Knies it's probably the opposite.

Yeah, he’s shown once again that he has nothing more to prove in the AHL.

Now he just needs good health and a long consistent run of NHL games and playing time—including a lot of time on scoring lines—to prove what kind of player we’ve got on our hands.

Not like the other depth scoring options have been contributing anything anyway, so there’s no excuse for him not to have a very long runway here.
 
I still prefer knies and robertson on the top two lines with bert domi krok as the 3rd line.

Nicky with domi at center seems like a line that keefe will be scared to play much of the time.
 
Willy is one of the few guys going right now, probably doesn't want to disrupt that. Hopefully Keefe isn't afraid to try all sorts of combinations now that hopefully Kampf is done at 3c.

Seems like putting the kids in the best position to succeed.

Don't disagree but just assuming that's the rationale. They have literally no one other than the core providing offense right now. If Willy at center sacrifices a bunch of his offense (this isn't a crazy thought IMO) then they'll be even more in the shitter. I think longer term once or if they get the depth pieces going, center Willy is the best option.
 
Yeah if you want your third line to score then maybe play one if your players that can score on it.

Willy certainly doesn’t need JT to create offense, and vice versa.
 
I think Domi might look better at C than be does at W. At least offensively.

On another note, i wonder if Gregor actually sucks. Hard to tell with the linemates and all but maybe.
 
Either way, I think Krok is gonna do most of the heavy lifting defensively for that third line. They signed Bert to be in the top 6 and he's clearly capable of being a really good, 50-60+ point guy and isn't much of a line driver - you've gotta play him with your studs and hope he comes around. Robertson driving a 3rd line and chipping in 15-20 goals per season is just about where I see him if I were to project him under the assumption that his health holds up. I don't hate this at all.

He's Frank Vatrano for me, plays almost identically. Bit of tunnel vision and has never really excelled playing with stars, but more than holds his own driving his own line. That's just how I see him though. But yeah, that's probably his upside and not what he is today.
