No Excuses No Limits! The mother fucking goddamn season thread

the thing with splitting up the big 4 over 3 lines is that it is a matchup nightmare. Especially in the playoffs. It’s what won the Pens back to back cups and made Vegas so tough last year.

Knies Matthews Marner
Robertson Tavares Jarnkrok
Bertuzzi Nylander Domi
garbage

oh. yeah. that probably works too.

wait, why does it seem like we have a few good options and are playing the worst possible one?

He sounds like he's speculating like the rest of us but...

Of the two, please be Tanev, please be Tanev. But I'd prefer more of a longterm solution, not an aging rental. In any event, grabbing at least one of these guys from Calgary makes too much sense at this point. Hell, even Zadorov and Tanev and subtracting Klingberg would be an upgrade. The dream is always gonna be Weegar tho.

Well we finally have our best 9 offensive forwards in our top 9 so it's a start.
The most important thing is that I want to see Keefe shuffle things aggressively and often. They have their top 9 dogs there, if something doesn't work after a game or 2, try the next thing. No need to fall in love with anything. But in any event, I have zero issue with this starting point.

Yeah, if I had my way we would try this:

Robertson-Matthews-Marner

- I agree with Zeke that Robbie isn't a water carrier, but I disagree with Presto about the tunnel vision bit being baked into his game, I think it's the speed of the NHL game he hasn't figured out yet. Robbie in space due to Matthew's gravity would suit his top line skill the best, and give Marner a 2nd target with an elite release to find in space. I don't think Matthews-Marner really need a guy who does a whole lot out there other than find space and get them the puck. It's not like Hyman, Bunting, Bertuzzi have ever made them better or anything.

Knies-Tavares-Bertuzzi

- Tavares historically works great with guys who play fairly meat and potatoes games but with the tools to finish chances around the net, maintain possession along the boards, etc.

Domi-Nylander-Jarnkrok

- In an ideal world we would have another good top 6 winger for Willy to work with but I don't think Willy Prime really needs it. I think all 3 of these guys having Centre in the their DNA helps with faceoffs and defensive assignments but it's a line that will need some sheltering. There's enough professional skill on the flanks to support Willy being Willy in the middle here. They can all make a professional skill pass, they can all handle the puck with speed.

I'm not sure any of those guys would crack my top 2 of choices for Calgary D.

and if they're blowing it up, I really consider taking psycho Naz back at full retention as well. There's your 3C and we all know he's the type of dude who will bleed (or make you bleed) for the dude next to him.

Tanev would be my #2 I think. Hanifin would cost too much and I'm not sure he's gonna be worth it. Signing him long-term would scare me a bit too.

Tanev will immediately give them a legit shutdown pair. Kind of nice to dream about.

Tanev + Zadorov + Naz (50%) for McCabe + Klingberg + Kampf + ?????

God, l love Naz. But I don’t see how this would be possible. Helluva tough sell to convince Calgary to eat $3.5M in dead cap space & salary for six seasons.

And then on our end, there’s also the very open question whether 33 year-old Naz Kadri is good value at $3.5M from ages 33-38.
