One or two excuses & probably quite limited! The "ah fuck, here we go again" playoff thread

Kadri was pretty clearly done here. Loved the guy but he fucked us a few times too.

This franchise is cursed. Cursed by poor management.

Get a goalie. Build the defense. Do something different for once.

That was my core question in the lead up. Tavares is obviously a good player, but was he enough better than Kadri to justify the cost?

The answer is pretty clearly fuck no.
It also likely had a correlation to matthews and marners salary demands.

No Tavares and maybe it’s naz 4.5 am 11 mm 10

Or 25.5 m vs 33.4

Boston has been up 3-1 a few times already and have choked it away...just keeping hope.

But here'a deal I could see happening.

Marner to LA for Matt Roy and PLD.

Maybe we can flip PLD to Montreal if they want him.

Marner and his wife are made for LA. We get another no show player, but at least he could be a true 3C and when he gets angry can still play. And the young 6'2 dman in Roy
The Habs do not want PLD, especially now that they've seen him play for the Kings.

We honestly would have been way better off letting the kids learn on their own without the experience and leadership that was forced on them.

It's actually kinda remarkable the degree to which almost every "veteran leader" brought in to try and help these guys was a notorious loser.

In that either they'd played their entire careers on shit teams that either always missed the playoffs or went out in the first or second round. Or former elite players who were core members of elite teams that famously could never get it done and win a Cup.

Matt Martin, John Tavares, Wayne Simmonds & Mark Giordano all fit into the former category. And Patrick Marleau, Jason Spezza & Joe Thornton all fit into the latter. The only real exceptions are Muzzin & O'Reilly. But Muzzin was already half-pooched from injuries by the time we acquired him. And 24 games of playing with these losers was enough for O'Reilly to hightail it the fuck out of here.

I’ve long said the Leafs won’t be able to trade Tavares or Marner, since I don’t believe either of them would waive their NMC’s. But I think they at least have to try this summer.

Strip them both of their letters and make it clear the team won’t be re-signing them and would like to move on. And if either or both stick around, keep them on the third line and off the top PP unit.

(All this comes after firing Shanahan, pizza boy & Keefe of course)

I really don’t want to see another Leaf game with those guys in the lineup or with Keefe behind the bench.
Yeah, publicly humiliate them to lower their trade value and watch to see how many UFA's decide to sign in Toronto.

Gotta say, I was falling asleep during period one, so when it was over I just went to bed. Set up the pvr to watch this morn.

Woke up to a spoiler text, didn’t bother watching, and I feel great. Liberated, almost. Would recommend.

I just don’t really care anymore. For better or worse I guess
Yep haven't watched much more than about 20 mins of hockey this playoffs and life is freaking great. Like I say, this is a fun regular season team and helps get through a shit winter but once temps are up and the annual implosion begins its time to find alternative activities.

Leafs PP Goals/60 career regular season vs playoffs.

Marner Reg Season: 1.53
Marner Playoffs: 0.34
Drops 78%.

Matthews Reg Season: 3.42
Matthews Playoffs: 1.67
Drops 51%.

Nylander Reg Season: 2.28
Nylander Playoffs: 2.35
Rises 3%.
I've said for a long time that Willy is the only member of the core who elevates his game in the playoffs.

Here is my patented crazy 😵‍💫 trade idea:

Ottawa is in a bind. They are stuck as a cap team with long-term contracts and really no way to improve that roster.

Would Marner for Tkachuk + Chychrun be fair for both teams?
I'd maybe give you one, but not both, for Marner.

You’re not alone. I was at a birthday party last night…. many hardcore leaf fans who typically follow closely but couldn’t be bothered to give any fucks this time around
Thats what I love to see.

The opposite of love isn't hate, it's indifference.
