OT: American Politics

i still think a lot of the people who voted third party in 2016 were naive and might admit that now.

either they didn't think trump would win and thought it was safe to withhold their vote from someone they didn't love...
or they thought roe v wade was safe... or they didn't think trump would attempt a coup... or they told themselves there were adults/civil servants/generals in the room that would rein in his worst instincts.

or maybe all four if you're habsy.

but the mask is off now. that's why everyone voted for someone no one overly loved in biden.

At the end of the day, I just want this to be over. It has been exhausting cycle. I've tried to stay grounded throughout because ultimately the data has never swayed far enough in one direction to feel too strongly one way or another since Biden was getting smoked. But it has truly been a grind. So much noise.

I think the one thing to keep in mind: crowd size.

In 2016, everyone said the election was close, closer than the polls indicated because Trump was getting many people out to his rallies.

This year it seems that the dynamic has changed.

I have more faith in the people of America than that! rightly or wrongly, we'll know soon.

I think women care more about their reproductive freedom and access to healthcare than the cost of bacon. but it is a fair point, no doubt. cost of living matters.

Justin has bacon prices low. So probably landslide for him.

I'm surprised at how optimistic you are! I don't know, I don't see the data to support feeling too strongly one way or another. The vibes are going to appear great whether you support Trump or Kamala based on the people you follow and information you seek, so I don't put as much stock in that.

When this is all over you're going to realize that the data was gamed to make you feel exactly this way about the race

I don't have faith in the people of America. I mean, you have basically Obama's Hope and Freedom minus the oratory skills of Obama, against someone who's openly running as a Fascist, and it's still a virtual coinflip where the only differentiator is how you feel the vibes are going.

I mean, I think there's a chance that are the polls are pure garbage, and that Harris will end up with some stupid like 55-45 win in the end. But that's my bias that people are sane and rational coming through in that.

But echoing the need for this to be over. This election cycle has basically lasted 4 years, and at least when it's done, either the US is irredeemably f*cked beyond belief, or we can (maybe) never see Trump show his face again.
