OT: American Politics

you may want to start paying attention to percentages. % of votes counted, and % of votes recorded compared to previous elections. will add some perspective to unhelpful and incomplete data that you want to rely on/repost.
I do pay attention to those when I see them.

I don't know what it's like in the US, but in Canada I know most local polling places are essentially staffed by retired people and volunteer workers. Not necessarily the highest talent levels at play in many cases. A lot of times these errors are mistakes made by the local staff, nothing at all related to any other part of the process.

I've run polling stations. Even having to get a replacement machine brought in. And yes the average age of poll workers is probably 75.

The key is... there are always contingency plans.

Oh yeah, it may take a while, sometimes they have to extend the deadlines, etc... Poll workers do a great job on the whole, a pretty thankless job. But they're humans who don't do this and who tend to have very little training, so stuff happens.
