OT: American Politics

I was hoping he was wrong. He's a bit too fundamentalist about the demographic piece and it's impact on economies, but a lot of the general themes are probably pretty close to right. The one thing I'd say though is that the American order isn't disintegrating so much as it's eating itself. The American public at large doesn't appreciate how much they benefit from the (mostly) soft power American order and they've decided that they don't want it anymore, even if they don't understand that this is what they're saying.

There was a deep, deep failure of US policy makers over the last 40 years to more equitably spread the proceeds of globalization and this is what it's bred.
I couldn't agree more. In fact in the last 50 years this has been the issue. They have made race and gender and sexuality more important than economic justice and this is what we get.

This is why I hate woke.

Eh, you've fallen for the divide and conquer bit. The same people who invented "woke" as a derogatory concept (at it's core it's just human rights and egalitarianism) are the ones who advance hyper capitalist policies that reinforce the class divide. The richest man in the world bought a social media platform and beat the shit out of the "woke" drum for a reason. That was not an accident.

Look, a lot of the reason why we arent seeing Harris move the needle is because the media is reticent about declaring her the victor. I saw Trump declared the winner in Oklahoma even though the polls had just closed and 0% were reporting. Meanwhile, we had to wait for Harris to be declared the winner in l

That really is the tweet. If Trump doesn't win one of the blue wall states he's not going to win.

And I've noticed a trend with the networks tonight. They are clearly afraid of triggering Trump. They called Oklahoma for Trump 5 seconds after the polls closed with 0% reporting but are saying that Minnesota is "too close to call" even though Harris has a 9 point lead and we'll over 50% reporting. Even Reagan in the 84 landslide didn't win Minnesota and there is no earthly reason not to put those 10 EC votes into Harris' column but the networks are too chicken to call it.

It's gonna get worse my friend. This diversion off into autocracy and oligarchy is coming at a time where if we don't sort out our climate challenges relatively shortly, shit starts to look grim for civilization in 70-80 yrs.
I'm sort of glad I'm already more than halfway there (to the end). Do really feel for those born into this world right now though.

You make it seem like the fight for race/gender/sexual equality is completely divorced from economic justice

Especially when members of those groups are far more likely to be in the lower economic classes specifically because of their race or gender.

It's the same struggle but the real elite class co opted it to divide and conquer. Well, they're winning by a lot right now.
