OT: American Politics

We're about to find out just how much "the law" is worth I guess. Trump definitely wants the ability to influence or even set interest rates.

I consider rule of law on its way out in America.

prolly won't happen all at once, but the cuts are gonna start coming soon, and building up.

Powell will be a good test case. I'm not super optimistic.

You are so off on Trump, it's one thing I find so hard to understand. He does not care about people even 0.1% in my opinion.

Though having said that, I think people on my side probably hate him too much. He is a despicable person in many ways (and I do find it kind of disturbing that you still can't see this, even a little bit) but he is not evil. Total malignant narcissist (not just "a bit" narcissistic) but Hitler was a fanatic about certain ideas and prepared to carry out a world war and mass murder to achieve his goals. That's not Trump, he doesn't believe in anything, other than enriching himself and promoting his brand (which is himself).

But he does have a lot of debt, and is not as rich as you think. He is absolutely 100% going to take bribes and find ways to enrich himself, there is no doubt about that now. I mean if you could promise me that was the worst of it we would just have to accept it at this point.

As for elections, we can take some solace in the fact that they are run independently, largely by states, and you're right that he is too old to remain a dictator for long. But if he does try to take steps to "become" a dictator in any way, are you prepared to change your opinion and fight against it? Also do you agree with us that it's a really bad thing that there are so many autocracies in the world (which it's always bad for the people living under them), or do you just not care?

But if he did decide to get rid of term limits and run for a 3rd time, would you support that or agree that it's unacceptable?

As for civil liberties, would you just not give a shit if they made gay marriage illegal? Built camps for millions of immigrants? Would you speak out against if if he did start to jail political rivals?
Too many people who interact closely with him feel the same way. His public appearances give the same impression. Kamala looked cold and impersonal and Trump was the exact opposite. The people's president.

Bribes from who for what? He cares too much about what his base things to do that. Plus he's principled.

Going on about an absurd hypothetical is pointless. Entertaining such a thing is a waste of time.
He can't unilaterally decide term limits. The constitution would be ammended, which congress would never do.

Marriage is a religious sacrament The state should've never got involved to begin with. But since they confer tax benefits, the government will always given equal protection to different varieties of marriage for government benefits purposes.

I'd be pretty upset if they built camps for immigrants. They should just be taking them straight back to mexico. No need for a pit stop.

I would not speak out if the DOJ prosecuted people who were perceived as democrats. The DOJ only uses actual laws to prosecute, right?

the whole 'man of the people' think is a ruse and a grift though. he is and always has been an elite.

you must have missed the part of his first term where he profited off of foreign governments through various Trump companies.

he's already said that he does not think he should have to follow the constitution

is this you saying you oppose gay marriage?

let's check back in on this in six or nine months. I expect you will end up "pretty upset"

Biden's DOJ prosecuted his own son.
