OT: American Politics

We’re going to see plenty more of this, I’m afraid. The mainstream media in the US will wholly and utterly capitulate to Trump.

And honestly, that article was even worse than I thought. It’s a chipper, detailed, straight-forward run-through of what the US bureaucratic process would be for admitting Canada in the state.

The only brief mention of the agency of Canadians in all this is confined to one short paragraph under the heading “doesn’t Canada get a say?” And all they really mention is essentially, “they could hold a referendum, I guess” (with zero mention or analysis whatsoever of our own legal & democratic processes) and that Canada’s leaders are mostly opposed to the idea.

And the only mention at all about how the Canadian people feel is, to paraphrase, “Canadians feel less positively about Americans than vice-versa, but on the whole the majority of Canadians feel positively about Americans!”

Temporarily. Wait until everyone rewires their economies and trade around US instability and realizes it's actually better for their economies to be more diverse. Just putting all of your shit on a boat and sending it to one place is convenient, but obviously problematic.

The US built this system and were the main beneficiary of it by a lot. That it's populace was too lazy/stupid to understand that and it's wealthy too greedy to accept that as their portion is going to fucking amaze future historians.
I concur we are trading American soft power for a god damn madman
