If you’re Trump, you can start thinking about landing a detachment of troops in Greenland’s capital and declaring it as US territory. Or posting a re-drawn map of the US/Canada border on Truth Social and declaring that to be the new border. And if Canada objects, move US forces in to protect “US territory”.

But it’s ok, it’s the approved way of doing business in a world order lead by authoritarian absolute monarchs like Putin, Xi & Trump.

Here's the thing though, I think the era of individual authoritarians is going to go away shortly. Frankly, we're about to enter into a pretty fucked up time to be a public facing person at all.

Something very instructive has been going on in Ukraine. Fibre optic drones are unjammable. They require direct kill capabilities to be present wherever their target is. They currently have a range of about 20km and and high end hobbyist racing drones can reach speeds of just under 200kmh. We're exactly 0 years away from the off the shelf technology existing for a technically literate person to be able to purchase and put together an unjammable drone capable of carrying a lethal explosive charge, having it travel 3-4 km in less than 2 minutes from lift off to target, acquire that target using AI facial recognition and direct itself to target. We're only a few years from that same technically literate person being able to launch 100 of them in a swarm. I've seen people talk about how dangerous AI drone swarms are going to be for military purposes while missing the underlying truth that the technology actually isn't that difficult and will be in the hands of just about anyone within 10 yrs.

What are political assassinations going to be like in the future when the person committing the act no longer has to put themselves in harms way, or have spent years being trained on how to do it effectively?

I'm sure counter measures are going to be developed, but the days of an autocrat happily golfing with no concerns in the world are soon to be gone. Everything needed to turn them into red mist is available on Amazon for a few thousand bucks. Ukraine is going to be seen as a major turning point in all levels of conflict going forward imo. The world has changed and most of us won't realize it until we're watching an outdoor press conference and hear a buzzing before cameras cut out.

To be clear, I’m not predicting that the baddies are going to win. Just pointing out what their current end goal is.

And I’m definitely sold on drones. That’s one of the main things we should be focusing on for our own self-defense, along with building a nuclear arsenal.

As Canada stocks up it's military it could learn a lot from Ukrainian ingenuity.
