OT: American Politics

The economic "system" is flawed, lots of ways to prove that, I'm not sure how we figure out the difference between what we think a job is worth and what we think people are worth.

Government has a lot of levers to pull if they wanted to. Tax breaks for companies whose median salaries are higher than "X" or total payrolls are over whatever percentage of gross revenues, etc. Minimum wage laws, executive compensation laws...and then there's a whole bag of things that are just quality of life things that make wages mean a bit less. Dutch studies have consistently shown that a 500 million Euro investment in biking infrastructure has led to 19 billion euro total yield in overall economic savings because of it's impact on preventable deaths, urban traffic congestions, healthcare costs, etc. If you can get around efficiently in your life without having to spend 1000-1500 a month on a personal vehicle, you're less price sensitive to other aspects of life. It's about total cost of living in the end.

So basically, the trick isn't to determine what any particular job it's worth, set some parameters and the labour market will figure that out. Companies will do absolutely everything they're allowed to for them to save every nickle and pass it along to shareholders (aka, the ownership class). So just change the rules they have to abide by without killing the golden goose.

I mean, we all accept that they have an inordinate percentage of sex weirdos over there right? They almost definitely are so anti trans because the trans ladies make them tingle in ways that confuse and excite them but that they can never admit in public.
