OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

Friend of mine who lives in AB and was supposed to come home for Christmas and cousin who works for TTC just both tested positive. Both vaxxed. Both say flu like symptoms at this point.

Sucks from a Christmas perspective but vaccines seem to be keeping it all mild.

We're all gonna know a lot of people who are covid positive before the end of this. Love hearing the positive anecdotes. Hope we can all avoid long covid. It's the elderly/immunocompromised that keep me up at night, even if vaccinated we know they struggle.

Looks like my broth in-law's girlfriend will finally get to go home in the next day or two after 3 weeks in the hospital.

It's maddening to read her Facebook page. She's been very open about regretting not getting vaxxed... and every post you see morons talking about Ivermectin and how the vaccine doesn't work or some other BS.

My tenant and her kids have it. She has some preexisting conditions.

Aside from a shitty night in hospital to check her heart - it was cold, no pillows, nor blanket, people staying really far away from her, symptoms started Tuesday, were their worst Wednesday. Today, her cat litter box still doesn't bother her, despite the fact that it needs attention. She has no smell nor taste.

She's really glad she and her kids are all vaxed.

She said it was like the flu.

Funny part is that now that the vaccines aren't helping block infections the rewards for being vaccinated are higher than ever. This thing is so transmissible that we're all gonna catch it eventually. Those lucky antivaxxers who haven't been infected yet will come in contact with it completely immunaive. Granted they may get lucky as I was and many young folks are on first contact. But on average it's gonna be worse and longer lasting.

I don't really get people not believing scientists on vaccines created for COVID but believing in a drug also created by scientists for a completely different purpose because the interwebs told them to. Like why?

Because there has been an anti intellectual war on specialization & expertise for ~40 years now, and they're winning.

The irony, of course, being that these specialized experts have made their lives markedly for decades upon decades.

very few of them actually understand the role that experts have played in their lives. It's gods will that the electric wires in their homes don't catch on fire, that the food at the grocery store doesn't kill them, that their truck brakes don't fail at high speeds, that cholera & typhoid aren't things we worry about anymore when drinking water, etc, etc, etc.

Praise jeebus.
