OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

so fucking stupid.

the dude in black with the wand is supposed to be voldemort.
it was a tribute to britain's national health service, so yeah, there's fucking nurses.
the stadium is round, like... a lot of stadiums.

Took my first test a day after landing in MTL.

I tested negative and just as important, I did not eat the yummy looking desiccant. So feeling pretty immortal at the moment.

My niece has tested positive on a rapid test. She’s just got home to stay at my brothers when receiving this news. So Christmas is cancelled. Even more fun is that my brother was at my elderly parents along with my elderly uncle for a zoom doctors meeting with my moms doctor. So they may have been exposed too. The gift that keeps on giving.

I've got in laws who've recently returned from the States, and my sister's partner who is returning from the east coast. Not even sure what to do at this point?!? Get everyone tested?

Ok, so the unvaxxed guy at work today started telling me how this whole pandemic was predicted during the 2012 Olympics. I tuned him out, of course. o_O

So by predicted...he means that covid 19 is depicted as round and that the olympic stadium is also round?

Which makes sense if you're an idiot I guess...

also ignores the obvious, that these are all artists rendering of the virus:

and that virus actually looks like this:

90

Overlay that with olympic stadium a few dozen times instead.

I don't know, but the 5th or 6th overlay of the artists rendition of covid on the stadium and the tiktok's of the twerking nurses, I was getting pretty convinced.

Hopefully it’s a mild infection for your niece. If she returned home within 24 hrs of your brother seeing your parents then they shouldn’t be in danger.

I think every family needs to be transparent and make the call.

we’re all most worried about my 90 year old grandmother - but her own philosophy on it is that she’s still mobile and with it enough to play with her great grandkids and might not be by the time this thing blows over, so is willing to take the risk.

Unlike the summer vax program, I'm not very confident that the spread will be slowed nearly enough. If we get 80% of the entire population boosted and after 1-3 months on avg we get 70% protection with another 15% infected... Assuming R0 for this variant = 10 then vaccines + natural infections bring it to... 3.2. That's still higher than og covid.

Throw some masks on people, use rapid testing, capacity limits, work from home, etc... Can we get it below 1? It's a tough ask but I'm sure we can at times. The problem is immunity wanes quickly. As that happens we'd need stronger and stronger restrictions. We saw it with delta just before omicron came. Waning immunity resulted in some exponential growth there.

But yeah best we can do is get vaccinated, get boosted and when covid comes our way hope for the best. Because this thing has become too transmissible to control. I know we're not back to march 2020 thanks to amazing vaccines but this version of covid is a million times worse.

I'm not expecting anything approaching stopping omicron. Best we can hope for is to slow it just enough for the hospital system to squeak by. Hope that out 2 doesed majority is effective enough in limiting bad outcomes. We'll know soon enough from our European counterparts.
