OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

I'm sure she was in a tough spot but I think at a certain point you have to push back on some of the very dangerous suggestions to the public that were made. Or at least not praise Trump's ability to analyze data when he's saying "don't even worry about any of this, it's going away".

Real tough balance with the orange idiot in charge.

Novavax is the one folks. At least until we get a vaccine aimed at tackling all variants (in development).

For reference: Pfizer and Moderna show a 20-40x fold reduction in neutralization after 2 doses:

Novavax data:
- 2 doses only saw a 4-fold decrease in neutralization vs omicron which is the best of the bunch (this is a 95%+ VE vaccine on the WT covid for reference)
- 3 doses increased neutralization by 9.3 fold on omicron
- still gonna be starting trials on omicron specific vaccine in Q1 2022 in case it's needed

Safer product, more sustainable to take longterm if we are getting regular boosters. But they need to learn to produce at scale. So many hiccups.

I was able to book a booster shot for tomorrow. There is a trick that I learned from the vaccine hunters discord and it takes a bit of perseverance but it only took me about 30 minutes or so.

When you are searching for an appointment you enter your location:

1. Keep switching between 25km and 50km
2. When a location pops up with earlier dates click it as soon as possible and see if a time and date shows up earlier than what you've booked already. A lot of times it'll say 0 available, click back and keep clicking the location with earlier dates, the times should change as cancellations happen in real time.
3. Keep switching between 25km and 50km as it refreshes when you do this and new locations with different dates will popup.

I managed to go from January 18th to 10th to 4th to December 27th to tomorrow using this technique.

Just takes a lot of clicking and patience. You'll have to relogin with your health card info once you picked a new date.

For the system in London they hold a fixed number of pediatric slots, but if there's a no show or cancellation it shows up as an opening on the booking page. If you can get to the site in 30 minutes your gold. That's what I did yesterday.

I could get an appointment by misrepresenting either my age or being in one of the eligible groups. But I am gonna wait my turn :(

All things positive COVID news today is great but I'm afraid it's going to get some people socializing more than they would be (or should be) otherwise.
