OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

I think this is probably the route that needs to be taken eventually, I guess I'm just surprised the US is doing it right now while Omicron is just picking up and they have such a huge portion of unvaxxed.

But whatever I'm boosted and I'm tired of arguing with people. Everyone can do whatever they want, especially the US.
Yeah we're just not at the point of being able to intentionally release infectious coviders to society. Hoping Canada doesn't follow this guidance.

Once in awhile I see a new covid conspiracy theorist who was on Rogans podcast gaining steam on twitter. He's still doubling and tripling down it seems.

Seems like yesterday where he had Michael osterholm on and it was a great interview. And he even praised vaccines in that interview, although I don't think he understood what vaccines do at the time (and still doesn't).

You're right btw

Yeah, it really should be more along the lines of "once you test positive, you isolate until you get 2 days in a row of negative rapid tests". So most people it probably would be 5-6 days, but maybe some people it's up to 8 or 10.

Rogan seems to be stuck in a loop these days. He's not anti-vax, he just thinks it isn't necessary if you are in shape, take vitamin D and take Athletic Greens twice a day. Promo code: Rogan.

This is why I'm working to evade the Cron:

And this is the main argument against "it'll just be another common cold" which tbh is fair! It's way more likely to always be something quite a bit nastier but we'll build up broader and more robust defenses over time. We'll all get covid multiple times but I'd rather build up that immunity via vaccines as much as possible before taking another natural hit.

Starting to push upwards. Was always gonna happen so no need to panic. Just a matter of how crazy it gets now and whether we can handle the load. Good news is after this wave the unvaxxed will have some form of immunity. So by the next wave/variant we'll have nearly 100% immunity in the population. That's gonna make a big difference. Just have to hope the next variant isn't delta or delta+ severity.

And this is big too. We need delta to die because co-circulation would be awful. And delta in general was incredibly more severe than every other variant we've seen. Saying omicron is less severe than delta is like saying the Habs have won more cups than the leafs in the last 50 years. It's a really fucking low bar. Don't need that nightmare circulating and we don't need omicron to pick up any delta mutations.

How does that work if they don't get covid?
Their first exposure has a far higher likelihood of being a harrowing experience. They won't avoid it forever. Of course, most are technically "mild," especially if relatively young, but their odds are just worse.

Getting vaccinated gives us a relatively easy, mild first exposure to the spike. Others prefer to be infected by the virus and potentially struggle for weeks. They call that "natural immunity" but it seems less natural than getting a painless needle.

Ok, so you're saying we're all going to get it eventually. Cheers. :)
Oh yeah for sure. Unless we stay locked up forever this is going to be impossible to avoid. It's just gonna be another circulating respiratory virus for the rest of time, and one we'll catch 1-2 times per year max (if we don't boost annually; otherwise maybe once a year max). This one is way more infectious than even the flu. There will be a time where the general population is less "scared" of it through treatments, better vaccines, more mature/broad/robust immune systems as we are exposed to multiple variants through vax and infection, etc. We're not there yet but it will continue to get milder over time and we'll stop thinking about it. Except the nerds. They will continue to monitor it.

So why are people still cautious? It isn't for no reason. Buying time till it becomes safer to take more risks has a lot of logic behind it.

Catching it after omicron specific boosters are rolled out would be better. And catching it after gen 2 vaccines are available would be even better than that!
