OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

Its funny. We have live animal markets even here in the city, at least in terms of seafood.

And I'm sure there is something resembling live animal markets out in the country amongst the hicks, no?

Do they sell bats, cats, and dogs?

I believe fish are far less dangerous than animals. The blood of animals in particular.
 
The way I see it is that the world has been kowtowing to China and their narratives for decades now. It's about time the world pushed back. Cheap labor and supplies aren't worth this sort of thing.

Yep. Separating the stages of food production is probably a good thing.

Though even here we have farmers who butcher and sell their own livestock, no?

Yeah, I mean its not a moral argument. They have to feed 1.5 billion people, no judgment for eating fucked up shit.

But an extremely infectious corona virus like this resulting from packing thousands of caged mammals on top of each other, in a market visited by millions of humans was so predictable that Sylivia Brown and Dean Koontz were writing about it.
 
It's being reported elsewhere in print as well. The salient point is these markets need some form of regulation for safety practices.
The salient point is what are we talking about when we say “these markets”.

Loblaws is a “wet market” as well, in that they sell meat.

The food safety standards in Chinese wet markets are abysmal, but they result in food poisoning, not pandemics.

Completely agreed that Chinese live animal markets should be shuttered. Above all, perhaps, they are inconceivably inhumane.

I remember my friend and I took a history class in summer school to have an extra spare in the upcoming senior year, and the teacher, who was a hilarious wacko, commented one day about imagine what sick fuck decided for the first time that hey, we should really see what a frog's legs taste like, and should put an octopus in our mouths. I mean, sure, you can say the same thing about eating cows, chickens, and fish, but okay, those have been established and are available and for the most part safe for consumption. Why is that not good enough? Why do people need to travel to places and eat grasshoppers and roaches and other disgusting bugs crawling out of the ground? Or eat disease-infested bats and other rodents? I mean, seriously, fucking lunatics.

Something of a difference between having lobster and crab in a tank and having pangolin et all in cages from a sanitation standpoint.

Here? Not that I've ever seen. I've done some pretty extensive traveling in rural Mexico and haven't see anything like that. If North America was going to have something like that, I'd imagine it would be in the backwoods of some central/southern mexican states where the rural people live in basically 3rd world conditions.

They have zona humeda (fresh meat) at mexican tianguis/markets, but I've never seen a live animal market anywhere in central mexico. I think culturally we just eat different stuff that is harder to process on the spot. Why butcher a cow/pig at the market? Shit, I've never even seen live chicken or duck in Mexico at a rural market.
 
Fucking vegans.

Please. I could never survive as a vegan. I do steak, chicken, and fish. That's it. I don't even touch lamb, duck, and other less common animals.

Like I said in my other post, these are enough for me. I don't need to know what a kangaroo's ear or hamster's nose taste like.
