OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

so, a while back I noticed a significant turn in my dad's thinking about covid and lockdowns. he basically went from supporting them to being vehemently opposed.

then, later, I found out he has been listening to Bari Weiss' podcast religiously. ***loud sigh***
So he's declared himself over covid. Pandemic over!

I am officially done with climate change and winter too.

Dying is a better fate than long covid tho! And that's in the 20-30% range of all infections, with maybe only half of that with a full recovery within a year. Fuck that shit.
Just joined a group who are people in fitness dealing with long Covid. It’s staggering that some of these people who are or were really fit, are on struggle street even going for a walk.

I think we (myself included) get caught up in death rates and whatnot and celebrate when we've got the mortality rate pretty low thanks to vaccines. But when you hear how high the percentages are for these kind of long-term issues, it takes you back. Really makes me understand that we either need HIV-like high quality treatments for these things (if they're even possible) or we need superior vaccines that suppress transmission aggressively with near sterilizing immunity. Co-existing with covid through mass infection and individually getting infected once or twice a year is a recipe for disaster. This kind of thing is NOT rare. It's not really talked about enough but I suspect that when the dust settles from this mass infection Omicron wave it will be a major talking point.

UK workforce has taken a major hit already from long covid sufferers. US too. We'll be next.

They should try walking Strong Street, Vital Road, or Able Avenue instead.

CA just dropped all the mask mandates for vaccinated folks, so we should have a nice surge soon. You know, given that every asshole has a fake vax card to gain access to any indoor area.

The myriad of drugs prescribed to these people is astounding as well.

I'm generally pretty relaxed and just genuinely enjoy science and all things covid... but those support groups and Twitter conversations about long covid frighten me and I actively try to stay away from them. But they do provide a good reminder to stay vigilant because I don't really think that it's talked about enough in the media. And unfortunately big pharma/governments (at this point) care more about prioritizing acute illness treatments and vaccines. Long covid is still very underfunded and there isn't enough urgency in solving the puzzle, though that is starting to change.

With Omicron infecting the entire world we won't have much of a choice! Even if ~5% of all infections result in a completely debilitating illness that's a lot of people that our medical system will have to care for!
