OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

I agree. But I prefer caution to "air is not much of a problem. don't worry"

I suspect, it's different outdoors.

Well caution in this respect changes the entire PPE game. Everybody in a hospital would need to be wearing full PPE at all times (so our shortage problem gets exponentially worse, leading to more healthcare workers getting sick/quarantined which is proportional to patient deaths) and we would basically have to strictly confine people at home if we are to assume this is just floating around in the air.

Best be sure with more seasoned data before making this claim and further complicating this matter.

The WHO had initially said otherwise, but they've been wrong about masks as well.

Coronavirus does spread through the air and lingers in rooms long after patients have left, study finds
  • US researchers found highly contagious bug lurking in air inside patients' rooms
  • Virus had also spread into hospital corridors where staff were coming in and out

That is what Dr. Osterholm said about this in the beginning. He was actually an advisor to the white house at some point in the Turmp admin. Its a shame they don't listen to the experts. And unfortunately its not just the conservatives.

This is kind of a scary foreshadowing of what will happen with climate change if our leaders don't change. The experts are right. Listen to them. Don't just ignore a problem because we cannot see the effect yet, until it is too late.

Tory and Toronto Health Minister recommending social distancing measures for at least another 12 weeks. Also stronger tracking and monitoring of confirmed and suspected cases. So we are looking at another 3 months of this at the bare minimum.

Really don't understand how they haven't shut down the TTC yet. It really is the obvious next step to control this thing.

How can they, though?

Fair chance that a significant number of the “essential” workers still working in hospitals, grocery stores, etc rely on public transit to get to their jobs.

They have to make it work. It doesn't help keeping the essential workers in the workplace if they are continuing to get sick from the cesspool of infection that is the TTC. It's the only place along with grocery stores where social distancing can not really be enforced and is often broken. Can't really take food away so the next step is public transit.

Maybe it means putting more money into taxis and other modes of transportation. But honestly this has to eventually happen as the number of cases rise. Best to do it now and limit spread.

And if they are to keep the TTC open, at the bare minimum they need to have a security officer on every bus or train to enforce distancing orders.

For some in society no public transit could mean no means to pick up groceries or their prescriptions.

Goat is a great food LeafofFaith. We need FAT. You are getting that from steak, but goat is delicious and has great fat too.

Same for Buffalo/Bison. You could die over time, eating certain meats cause they are too lean and don't have enough fat.

Be prepared to stay inside for up to three months, Toronto's top doctor warns

Toronto’s top doctor says that residents will likely have to remain at home and only venture outside “for the most essential of needs” for the next 12 weeks amid a surging number of cases of COVID-19 locally that has placed the city on an alarming trajectory.

Dr. Eileen de Villa made the comment on Wednesday as she issued sweeping new recommendations to help limit the spread of COVID-19., recommendations that Mayor John Tory says amount to “locking the city down as much as any municipal government possibly could.”

I agree, it is an extreme measure.

But again, if we find out (as I imagine we will) that this thing has spread much quicker because of densely populated public transit modalities, how else are we to control it? Prescriptions can be delivered now by most pharmacies, as can groceries.

I expect to die over time though.

Yeah this is fricken tough but has to be done.

Maybe some kind of shuttle service for essential workers or something

Meals on wheels can handle some of the load for the elderly/infirmed/etc., (though I'm not sure how this "situation" has affected their service availability). Great work by those volunteers.
