OT: MLB Thread

Oh and the 2 billion dollars to buy the team, build the stadium, and finance the first year of operations... thats just lying in someones couch cushions?

Bad ownership, a stadium in which it was not possible to make money and a non existent television deal. None of those factors would exist if they get another franchise. Any would-be owner would get vetted by MLB, a new baseball only downtown stadium would be a prerequisite and since the ownership would include a media conglomerate (likely Bell Media) the TV situation would also be taken care of.

Honestly, I would love to see baseball back here, I just am not confident the Expos could get an ownership group willing to commit 120m USD in payroll. You have boston, toronto, NYY in the EAST. If they think they will get 30,000+ with a 70m payroll, then they might as well never get a team. They need DEEP pockets willing to invest on the product on the field and through IFAs.

Well, if the French sports stations are so eager to broadcast MLB games, then get moving and spearhead a move to get baseball back to Montreal.

25th anniversary of one of the few significant events in the 35 years of Expos futility.

I watched it on TSN. A lazy summer Sunday afternoon. I wasn't feeling too energetic so I decided to make myself a sandwich, crack open a beer and watch the game. Little did I know that it was going to be a day I would remember forever. Watching the last three innings was nerve-wracking.

Giants pissing away season. 2-11 since All Star break. FML

And they hit into a triple play last night, the first in Nationals' history. Last time they turned one they were still the Expos.

Then there was that game when they balked in the winning run a week or two ago. If that isn't a sign of the apocalypse I don't know what is.

I figured the way the second half went, no even year thing was going to happen. Yet they turned on the switch last week and then won in the post season again.

I suspect they lose to the Cubs but hell, with Cueto and Bumgarner going, tout est possible.

Madison Bumgarner was pretty good in the regular season too. He is great all the time, not just in the playoffs.

Similar to a Joe Sakic, that isn't clutch play... that is just greatness.

The Jays have the best starting staff in MLB. It'll be tough to beat them in a 5 game series. even tougher if they play in the next round when it's 7. They just sent their 3rd best pitcher out today and he's an all-star and was magnificent.

Its not clear that the Rangers are a better team... they had a better record (in a much easier division), by winning a shit load of 1-run games. Their run differential doesn't match the record.

If you count this game, they're now in the - in run differential. terrible for a division winner.

They'd better hope that their starters can all go 8 innings because their bullpen is more flammable than an oil refinery.

yeah total chokers, better team obviously but being punked at home

then again, I wouldn't mind a WS with SF vs Toronto, when Giants win, I would be untouchable for years in this country,,,,

It'll be hilarious - not for Cubs fans - if the Giants beat the Cubs after the season that the Cubs (and Giants) had.
