lol those are some big shoes to fill, btw the dodgers CLEANED up today. They signed almost every solid player, alvarez etc..Blue Jays went over their allotment yet didn't sign any other big name guys, not sure why, if you are going to go over and be limited next year then take big advantage of it. But the BJs didn't quite do that.

According to @nickcafardo , the @RedSox could play in #Montreal next spring. We would have 100,000 for 2 games. Guaranteed

Getting a ballpark built is already a fantasy. Controlling the weather would be easier than getting one built with a working retractable roof.

They just need to copy the design from the Safeco field here in Seattle. It's a great stadium and has an pretty neat retractable roof.

That's more a measure of how many New Englanders will pop up to Montreal for a weekend.

Try the Astros and the Pirates to really test demand for MLB.

Not sure a Safeco clone would work in Montreal. Safeco, even when the roof is closed, isn't an enclosed stadium. The sides are still open to the elements and the concourse in the upper deck is actually outside too. That's fine for a mild climate like Seattle's but the last thing you'd want to see is a cold howling wind whipping through the stadium in Montreal.

The feasibility study used Minneapolis as a comparable for climate. They decided not to bother with a roof and they've barely had any rain out's. The cost of a roof isn't worth it for the few games you save.

You're right about Safeco, and I also agree that they might just decide to go with no roof. The Expos started dying the moment the roof was completed, they were doing fine without a roof before that.

Not having the roof cost the Expos a chance of the pennant in 79, 80, 82 - all those rainouts which became double-header splits or losses in Sept.

I believe you need a retractable roof. Yes, an open air stadium might work, but it would be much better with the retractable roof.

You're assuming that we would have won those games with a roof.

Sal's theory is that we would have been over .500 if the games were spread over 2 days. And that we only split all those ensuing double headers.

A lot fewer games in general get called off due to rain anymore. Drainage systems in these new stadiums are a lot better than they were 35 years ago. The old astroturf field they used at the Big O didn't drain much at all. It was like pavement on a highway. Besides, as soon as you add a roof the stadium becomes sterile and uninviting and in a city with weather like Montreal any stadium would be hermetically sealed when the roof was closed which would in turn make it just another Big O. People want to be outside in the summer.

Retractable roof is the answer

ESPN Stats & Info
Bryce Harper is now hitting .528 with 10 HR in 36 AB this season when Max Scherzer is pitching for Nationals.

I understood that part but it seems like a way too convenient assumption.
