It was a Red Sox party for Pedro Martinez and @ExposNation crashed. Mayor @DenisCoderre included.

Nice speech by Pedro. He reaffirmed his hope that Montreal would get its team back and saluted Felipe Alou, Tommy Harper, Vlad and even a couple of the minority owners like Routtenberg. Lots of Expos jerseys in the crowd too. Even the Big Unit thanked the Expos for giving him his shot at being an MLB player even though his minor league stats weren't great at the time.

There must have been 10,000 Blue Jay jerseys in the stands tonight. Maybe the following is small, but its a rabid one.

Here's the thing, and we see it all the time in Toronto when the Habs come to town.

The crowd at the ACC will be 50/50 split with Habs and Leafs fans. Does that mean there are the same number of Habs fans in Toronto as Leafs fans? Nope.... it just means that the Habs (who are likely the second biggest team in the region) and their fans target those 2-3 games per year, where Leaf fans have 41 games to choose from.

Same in Seattle.

The Mariners fans in Vancouver have 81 games they could go to... The Blue Jay fans have one series.

I still think the Jays have done it better than any other professional Canadian team. That is, they have a pretty strong following coast to coast. And its not just Seattle, there are a good number of Blue Jay jerseys in attendance wherever they go. You see a lot of them in Mid West American cities for example ( Jay fans from the prairies). And we are not talking about Toronto expats here. For some reason, those folks out West who have every reason to hate Toronto, a lot of them love the Jays.

There are a lot of Blue Jay fans here, for some reason they see them as "Canada's Team". It was Expo territory before 1983 but since, it has been Blue Jay. Their games are on radio here. The Mariners have never had much of a following here. Unlike the Seahawks, Vancouver has never bandwagoned onto the Mariners bus. Granted, the Seahawks had no fans here either until about 3 years ago. I remember when Count Jr and I went to a game in Seattle in 2012, someone asked why all the BC licence plates were full of Cowboys' fans and not Seahawks. Now it is different but once the Seahawks return to mediocrity, the number of fans in this city will drop.

Re baseball, you see a lot of Blue Jay, and SF Giants. Not much of other teams.

TSN 1410 aired all three of the Jays-Mariners series and for once used the Mariners' feed instead of the Jays' feed like they usually do when these two teams play. They also air as many if not more Mariners games on the radio than Jays games due to the fact that most Jays games are played when the afternoon drive show is on in Vancouver.

Sure they do. Being on tv coast to coast helps....

Traded him for the best SS in the game. As long as another deal comes for a starter, a good move

The best SS in the game who will most likely be a DH in 2-3 years max. He's signed through 36 years old and he's been pretty fragile with a wonky hip. I think they get 2-3 great years out of him, but will regret having a 20m/yr DH in a couple of years. It's a trade to make to win now, but the Jays have already a very mid level farm system. Any more trades and they are going to have one of the weakest farm systems in the majors which they are going to have to make since they still need 1 SP and possibly another BP arm. I think Hoffman is going to be a solid mid rotation starter, possibly a #2 guy.
