OT: Movies/TV Shows

By the way...

Didn't Alicent have a daughter when they first introduced the kids? I could've sworn there was a blond girl too, but was that somehow Aegon's wife at an early age or something, or did I just imagine it all and she's only just ever had the two boys? Who is Aegon's wife now anyway, presumably a daughter from one of the major houses?

And what was with Jayce's dance with her at the dinner? I didn't understand that move. After the insults, he asks her to dance to rile up Aegon or was there some weird tradition there that I didn't catch?
The daughter has been giving prophecies and is betrothed to her brother.

It is the song of fire and ICE. You need the white walkers. That is the point of the story.

I mean, they're kind of not wrong. HBO did an incredible job with the show and the best work they did was largely in between the major plot points (red wedding aside...fucking iconic book scene).

Its why I call the source material inferior to WoT and Tolkien. Its a much "smaller" world with a lesser story. Still very good, but definitely lesser than.

I guess. But as a guy with zero knowledge of the books, the white walkers were the least interesting story line. I wanted them to fully hash out the political storylines and complex characters they had already done such a great job of developing in the first few seasons, but instead it felt like they constantly had to shoehorn in these ice zombies.

The white walkers thing was awesome as a looming crisis that would impact the world but was ignored by almost everyone until it was too late. Some of the best most memorable scenes still revolve around them. Jon seeing them for the first time and sailing away while zombies were born, them trying to kidnap one, the dragon being grounded and turned, etc. And the mystery of the Night King - who is he, how is he connected, what does he want - was an incredible plot point.

The problem was NK ends up being nobody, with no desire other than mindless domination, with no connection to anyone, who gets killed by someone with zero reason to be the hero. That’s why the WW stuff ended up being stupid in the end, because there was no meaning behind them or their leader.

How does the plot even work if Jon isn't at the wall? The 700 foot ice wall doesn't work if its just to keep out a hunter-gatherer rabble of free folk.

True would have to be Latino migrants.

And wasn't being sent to the Wall a thing for hundreds of years despite there literally being no white walkers seen and even the men in black not really believing in them anymore?

Literally every single fan theory about NK would’ve been better that aimless nobody NK that he ended up being. Like what if Aegon who had the dream in the first place ended up being the guy the little fairies turned? Even just the simplest connection would’ve made the whole story infinitely better.

Maverick did bonkers business because its an extremely well written, extremely well done....action sequel. Its the exact thing that is taking the oxygen out of the room for mid budget movies. Its not the genres that are the problem, it's Hollywood exec culture thats the problem. They want established IP with a built in fan base to mitigate the financial risk. Nobody loses their job over a 6.2 on imdb, but lose studio money and you'll never work again.
It's more for adults though and isn't superhero or fantasy or a animation film. I thought it ok, but reviews were a little overboard in terms of praise. And the first film came out in 1986.
I can see if I can find it, but there was an article asking if anyone is asking for a TG sequel in 2022 right before it was released.
That Cruise movie filmed in outerspace sounds like it could be a massive hit. He's the only real movie star left.

I haven’t seen it yet, but I was never gaga for the first one. Will see it when it comes to tv.

Sure. I found it the most interesting and I found Dany the least interesting (especially after the first season / book).

To me the white walkers are the crucial motivation for so many characters that it is not really a sub plot but the main plot. Sure the show did not pay it off but imo all the theories people had were very important to the success. Who is the prince that was promised? Hell this is even a big motivation in the HotD.

Dude, who do you think legacy marvel characters and 80 yr old fantasy series adaptations are for? The kids?

The whole thing is a nostalgia play for 35-55 year olds. Same reason there are he man, voltron, etc, etc reboots

I think Marvel movies do attract very young viewers, yes.
Marverick came out 37 years after the original.

Wall would have to be in the south in that case...

Book lore super rusty, haven't touched this series in 10+ years....but....

no, the men of the wall didn't forget about the WW, even though at one point they hadn't seen one for 1000 years. Have to remember that the free folk and MIB did some co mingling over the years and the Free Folk never stopped believing in the existence of the WW.

yeah the true role of the walkers/NK was just as a boogieman, not an actual character.

Mild spoiler : In the books they have twins by the time of the "last feast" so maybe it was reference to that or maybe he has a bunch of bastards.
I’d have to rewatch, but I think when Alicent gets his naked ass out of bed, she says something like hurry up and get yourself together because your wife and kids are out there.

Strange that they don’t acknowledge the girl as a daughter/granddaughter, to the point I didn’t even know who she was other than his wife at the dinner.
