OT: Movies/TV Shows

That reminds me - here's one that probably won't get much love here, and probably doesn't fully qualify as a comedy.

But I think The Man from UNCLE with Cavill is a great film. Lots of funny moments, overall super entertaining, and Cavill is the man.
The original "The Man From Uncle" TV series with Captain Kirk, Mr Spock and even Colonel Klink!

That's a really good, underrated, fun film.
Honestly they should have gone with Cavill as Bond. Who cares if he was early 20's. Casino Royale was about rebooting the franchise and showing Bond from his start.

Looks like it’s currently on Netflix….added it to the queue. 👍🏼

edit: disagree on Cavill as Bond, he’s way too bulky…he’s more Jack Reacher than Bond, imo….and I think we probably see them go with someone less buff than Craig this time around, more svelte/lithe ala early Connery.

Craig was delish as Bond.

Apparently Cavill is a hugetime asshole that nobody likes..

I also agrre that he looks far too much like a superhero to be a superspy.

Last Voyage of the Demeter sounds like a cool story but execution is so very dull. Could have been a fantastic horror flick.

He absolutely would have to slim down for the part. He can’t be He-Man for it. But I’m sure they’d trim him down easily in the span of a month or two.

Where did you hear that? I do know one co-star of his, and she’s not a fan, but all other accounts have been that he’s a good guy.

there was rumblings of it when Witcher was cancelled & DCU announced they’d be moving forward with a new Supes.

now….that was after he complained online about Witcher being cancelled, but he’d apparently complained a lot about the scripts not matching the books or something….and folks didn’t like it.

Or that’s vaguely what I recall from group chats with friends who care about Witcher.

for my personal taste, and what I suspect they go with in the future Bond, I think he’s just too big & broad…not sure how keen he’d be losing all kinds of lean muscle from his shoulders, chest etc…or if he’s too big a star to even consider taking on a role for the next decade plus.

I think they go with someone with far far less star power, a near unknown (that hasn’t led a big movie yet) who is thrilled to take on a decades long role.

Also like zeke’s idea of going younger….you get a 25-28 year old in that role, have a prequel movie of sorts…and then audiences watch him evolve into the 007 we know? That sounds like a winning formula.

ironically tho, in searching “Henry Cavill skinny” to try your theory on, I found this article discussing how his audition for Casino Royale is what convinced him to get serious about his diet/training….turning him into the hulk we know now.

The only Oliver Stone film I’ve ever seen is Platoon. I always meant to watch more of the rest of his catalogue, but never got around to it.

But ever since he revealed himself as a slavering, sycophantic Putin toadie and one of the dumbest tankies you’ll find outside of Roger Waters or Glenn Greenwald, I lost all interest in going back and giving any of the rest of his shit the time of day.
Try to separate the artist from the art. I'm no fan of James Woods' politics but his performance in Salvador (directed by Stone) was great.

Agreed, I am as big a believer in the ‘Oswald lone gunman’ camp as you’ll find….but I think JFK is his masterpiece.

Legendary ensemble cast, Costner at his best, and some delicious (if absurd) conspiracy theories. It’s a blast.

Love the audio commentary for it with Oliver as well.
Not only was Oswald not the lone assassin, he didn't fire a shot that day, except the one that killed Officer Tippett (and even that might not be on him)

Agree for the most part, though I thought Sunday was goofy.

Have yet to see Nixon or W… am I missing much?
Aside from Pacino's locker room speech, Any Given Sunday was pretty crappy.

Nixon was a masterpiece, full stop.

W was good, but Josh Brolin didn't play dumbass Dubya as well as Sam Rockwell did in Vice. And Richard Dreyfus' Duck Cheney wasn't nearly as good as Christian Bale's.

Of course, the criming of people like Nixon, Dubya and Cheney seems almost quaint compared to Trump and the gang. That's a movie I'm anxious to see.
