OT: Movies/TV Shows

Sure, but both super hero type roles that have a very distinct audience. Also roles where the fans of the characters would go see the movie/show pretty much irrespective of the actor in those roles.

They just picked a total unknown to replace Cavill - do you think the next Superman movie will bomb?

So a huge franchise with world wide brand recognition, that can draw fans regardless of who is cast, just hired a virtual unknown to play the lead?

Some genius should have suggested precisely that earlier in this thread for the Bond franchise.

People go to see the massively popular character, not so much the actor. And because Bond has so much more widespread demographic appeal than Superman, the public knows Craig a lot more than they know Cavill.

But of course whoever they cast next for Bond will be huge. That was never in doubt. The issue was whether it should be Cavill or an unknown. You seem to think the world knows Cavill like they know Pitt and Cruise, and I don’t think that’s the case, so he’d really be somewhere between well known and unknown, not the massive headliner you think he is currently.

nice try….I never said anything remotely like that. I said they should hire a unknown non-star…..then laughed in your face when you tried to claim that applied to Cavill.

absolutely re[dacted].

Jesse Armstrong has confirmed that Logan Roy’s will was underlining Kendall’s name, as his choice for the next CEO of Waystar Royco.

Nice try? I said Cavill is a non-star star. I love the guy, I know all his work, but he’s not at all known in the way Leo, Brad, Cruise, Gosling and others are known.

Anyhoo.

Saw a couple of acclaimed, interesting thrillers last night: Influencer and How to blowup a pipe bomb. Not bad at all. If you're looking for a couple of lower-budget films in the 90-95 minute range these are good, solid thrillers.

While debating here last night, I put on the new Sandler bat mitzvah movie on Netflix. I kept reading it got like the highest “Adam Sandler movie” rating on Rotten Tomatoes ever, and really good reviews but…it’s literally a movie for 13 year old girls (and a vehicle used to try to launch his actual daughters’ careers). He’s barely even in it. It is actually a good movie I guess, but more like one I’d be entertained watching with my teenage daughter, not something I’d watch on my own.

How about Taron Egerton as bond? I think he might be a bit short, but he's pretty damn charismatic and definitely has the chops.

think mindz or someone mentioned him…..but noted he’s basically already done that role with The Kingsman franchise.

likely isn’t something he or the bond folks would be interested in.

otherwise tho. Totally agree…he’d be a pretty slam dunk choice.

I was going to ask if Kingsman was a little too on the nose. Then I thought, while it's a spy type franchise, his character specifically isn't all that Bond like.

‘Eight Grade’ is a movie I feel like all dads should watch with their daughters. Excellent flick.
Trailer looks good. Bo Burnham is very up and coming in the industry, sort of this hot commodity that gets talked about a lot among producers, but not so much yet by the general public. I’m curious to see if he ends up getting big. One of my clients is obsessed with him.

Literally just about any decent guy they give the part to is going to be praised and loved. The question is, are they going to go off the board again or go with the obvious choice.

Before Goldeneye, Brosnan was the obvious choice. He was supposed to do the Dalton movies but couldn’t get out of his Remington Steele contract. Once he was free and they were doing another film, he was the easy (perfect) choice really.

Craig was far more off the board. And there was quite a bit of outcry over him getting picked - “James Blond”, plus lots of angst over him being too ugly to play him. But they wanted to go for gruff rough and tumble over the smooth British gent, and it worked out just fine.

Obviously I’m hoping they go with the easy clear cut choice here. Cavill was basically born to play Bond imo. Any other pick would be disappointing, but I’m sure I’ll love the movies regardless.
