OT: Movies/TV Shows

I watched Costner's "Let Him Go" last night. Not great but it held my attention well enough to watch it all.

A couple of other Costner films that I have enjoyed but haven't seen mentioned here are "A Perfect World" with Clint Eastwood and "3000 Miles To Graceland" with Kurt Russell.

3000 Miles is one of those movies i can very much acknowledge is terrible, but i shamefully kinda dig.

Yes, delightful.

crazy how great all of Kline, Costner, Glenn, Glover, Dennehy and Cleese are in their roles. Every one of them crush it.

That Lawrence Kasdan script just littered with great one liners too.

“….today my jurisdiction is ends here.”

I LOVED Silverado. Costner has made so many great westerns.

He might give the definitive performance of that character trope in Silverado too….completely different than any of his other western roles, but is absolutely pitch perfect for that character. Unreal energy and charisma.

When Scott Glenn first finds him, and Costner’s so excited to see him, that he’s hanging off the bars in the cell, using it like monkey bars. Goddamn perfect..

One thing that always bothered me is Dances with Wolves got hate for beating Goodfellas for best picture. Really has nothing to do with the movie. At his peak fame, Costner sunk his own money and took a huge risk. The film is great. Yes, Goodfellas is better, but I'm not basing my opinion on a film on what Academy members vote for. Irrelevant.
It was very similar to 1980 when a huge movie star directed a film that to this day gets hate for beating Raging Bull (RB is better, but Ordinary People is really good).

I swear, being a great film that doesn’t win the Oscar almost ends up being better cache than winning it. It’s like it gives you a hipster bump or something that further cements your place in history.

Citizen Kane, Pulp Fiction, Goodfellas, Social Network, There Will be Blood, 2001 (or all Kubrick)…Raging Bull, Tree of Life, Glenngary Glen Ross, etc etc.

Rather be on this list, than the one of all the winners.

Yeah both those are great.

Amazed that this didn't win. Still the best film of this new millennium.

Lost to ‘No Country’ at least….but yeah as much as I love No Country, There Will Be Blood is the superior film/achievement.

Those two should have split best picture/best director ideally.

We are going through some horror films this month. First up was Rosemary's Baby. I recall watching that years and years ago and not thinking too much about it. On this rewatch, I was stuck by how well it holds a mirror to modern life. The role of a woman in a middle class life, with the lack of control over her body. Creepy as hell too.

Forgot Polanski directed it as well. Dude certainly had some fucked up idea's on women (children).
