OT: Movies/TV Shows

I watched Die Hard for Christmas and Jesus, why can't movies be made like that again? Even the idea to cast Rickman, who had never been in a movie was ingenious and would never be done today. A producer saw him in a play and cast him for the villain in a big budget action film.
Just a masterpiece.
The characters really have strong back-story. Even Bonnie Bedelia, who played Willis' wife and was fantastic would today be played by a hot, blonde 22 year-old that can't act and you wouldn't believe her and Willis were a real couple.
Gruber's lines are so unique and strong. You learns so much about him. Not just a cookie-cutter bad guy.
These days there would be too much interference and concerns over the cast and it simply would not be made like that.

Good thing "Old Blue Eyes" (Frank Sinatra) passed on the role of John McClane.

Another Frank Sinatra connection of sorts....

First appearance of Bruce Willis in a movie was a short cameo in the Frank Sinatra flick "The First Deadly Sin":

Yep. He had starred in "The Detective", which was based on a Roderick Thorpe novel (Who later wrote the novel Die Hard was based on). He had requested Thorpe write a sequel as The Detective was a huge hit. Thorpe was really slow in writing the next novel. So contractually they had to ask him even thought it was 20 years later and he was way too old.
There was a ton of other actors who passed on Die Hard like Burt Reynolds, Ahnold and Richard Gere.
