OT: NFL thread

I really would like Manning to win another SB before he retires......but Panthers look just too strong

He was crap last week as well. Bothered by a finger injury which may have thrown him off.

for a "not clutch" guy he came up with a late TD drive to take the lead, and a heck of a play to find Larry Fitzgerald in OT to set up the win.

The late TD drive that he almost got intercepted on and for which the ball bounced to be catched by a guy that was nit even the target. Also the OT was all Fitzgerald. Now that guy is clutch.

People choke and come through in the clutch all the time. The question is, are those traits repeatable and predictable or are we being fooled by randomness.

It's all kinda silly with team sports.

Consistently successful teams and/or dynasties are just really good teams, with a lot of good players. It masks less than stellar performances by individuals. But they win. So, we say their are clutch.

Except that he's never been good in any playoff games.

This is his 4th playoff game. In one of those playoff games he tore his achilles on his first pass of the game. Oh and he had just completed a 66 yard pass on that play.

Basically we are looking at a 3 game sample size.... he's 1-2.

Iirc you said no way Patriots would lose.

They shouldn't have. They beat themselves. Brady misfired on two second half pass attempt to a wide open receiver that would have both gone for touchdowns had he been able to hit the receiver. He had an off day, probably because his O-line didn't block for him. And let's face it, it's not like Manning was dominant himself. If these two QB's had been on their games, the combined score wouldn't have been only 38 points.

Small sample size but that's the nature of football, which is why it's critical to be at your best in the playoff games. He never managed to do it.

Did you watch the game or just looked at the scoreboard? He wasn't very good in that game, lots of bad throws and decisions.

There's no stat for bad throws that should have been picked off.

I'm sure Wehave will pick Broncos because Cam hasn't won anything in the NFL yet.

Not a chance. Denver nearly lost today and last week. It's really their opponents who beat themselves more than anything that Manning and Co. did. I think the Panthers will win it all. They faced tougher competition in the NFC playoffs than what the Broncos will give them.

This will simply be another opportunity for Manning to fail.

He did enough to win though... isn't one aspect of clutch coming up big at the end when it matters?

Whatever though, we have a three game sample size (against the best teams in the NFL) and we are declaring a QB who is 1-2 in those games, not clutch?
