OT: Politics & News... Have at it.

Not sure why Kerr is whining about 10 billion a year given what was added to the debt since 2006.

Because now is not the time to make things worse... especially living in Ontario where I do, and the Provincial Liberals are already putting the provincial debt out of control and ballooning interest in their budgets.

This isn't 2008 where some amount of deficit was necessary.

BTW, are the ndp done after this election?

Not I terms of disappearing, they will always be around, but in terms of ever forming government at the federal level?

I doubt that they will ever have better conditions than this.

100+ seats.

Centralist leader

Centralist platform

Neutered wacky left wing.

Voters wanting change

Everything was there for them. Yet here we are today with them solidly in 3rd place.

Mulcair's speech was very sombre. Sounded like he knew the party had returned to its previous function which was to provide social justice ideas for the Libs.

Call a spade a spade, Tories getting a majority last time around was simply electorate venting at Liberals corruption scandals & teaching them a lesson - I've never spoken with so many Canadians who wince at mentioning their PMs name the way they did with Harper...Adolf...Harper..whatever.

Canada has gone back to its true & tried post-WWII roots (everyone minus Texas of Canada...err Alberta).

A chimpanzee could've run as head of the Liberals & still pulled off this majority - NDP are what they are, the "scare factor", nothing more.

Now it's a matter of whether Jr can outperform a chimp....

Bill Maher did a great "New Rules" about selfies two weeks ago. The above photo tells you all you need to know about JT.
The first thing Maher did when he walked out on stage Sunday night was to warn a guy in the front row not to try and use his cell phone to take photos or record him.

Maher is too smug for me. He's been doing comedy for about 30 years, yet he still grins at his own jokes before delivering the punchline. And he still needs to look at his notes on-stage.

Hillary's opened up a big lead over Uncle Bernie. I guess using Denmark and Norway as your ideal model for the U.S. was not a good idea, LOL.
No, it's because Hillary is funded by the same evil cabal of special interests that fund the GOP. But as Robert Reich points out the US needs to use itself 50 years ago as it's model, when the rich payed 90% income tax and a third of the workforce had good paying union jobs.

50 years ago, automobiles were the best selling items and 95% of them were made in American factories. There was ZERO competition. Those days ain't coming back.

Need new ideas for today's tech.

The problem lies in that the usa is still a leader in technological innovation, but when it comes to the production of that tech, yup, China.

Have you thought of Cuba as your retirement destination, Comrade?

They gave the conservatives a minority in 2006
they gave them a minority again in 2008
They gave them the majority in 2011

Really, this is the narrative? The conservative majority in 2011 was punishing the liberals for scandals that happened 3 leaders and 4 governments earlier?

No I don't think so.

It was the liberals putting up shitty candidates, and shitty plans.

Yesterday was the electorate punishing a party who had been in power (And had unchecked power since 2011, with a majority) and had their own scandals that needed to be punished.

With a liberal majority today, the same will likely happen again, whether its 4 years or 8 years from now. With unchecked power the liberals will have their own scandals, its just a matter of time, and we'll put the conservatives in again, and then they will have scandals, and then we will put in the liberals again... and the cycle will continue.

The turning point here is the 80s... not WWII.

Trudeau was very gracious in victory last night, thanking Harper for his years of service, congratulating Mulcair but given what they said about him the last few years, I am sure a small part of him wished he could have done and said this

yes & no.

Yes - a third of the US workforce does need that, with a 350M population, but that was possible post-WWII ONLY because the U.S. had zero international competition, Europe was decimated to rubble, and Asia was pre-historic in industrial development.

Americans are too stupid to understand they are intrinsically fat, stupid, uneducated & lazy. They've lived high on the hog thanks to dreaded SOCIALISM: GI bill allowing university education post-WWII, social security, Medicare, unemployment insurance, and most importantly the only real manufacturers of ALL goods & services from 1945-1980 were US based.

What u see with globalization today is the reality of America, 1945-1980 was an aberration....

Lotus, I understand the numbers used to define the middle class but if your're making $60K a year with a family of four I would think you're struggling to keep your head above water. How do you own a house, pay for sports and activities and still live a decent life?

I couldn't even do all that with this salary as a single guy 10 years ago.

Urban centers in Canada, which has over 60% of the population are Liberal at heart, they need to be pushed away to vote Tories....

Urban centers in Canada, which has over 60% of the population are Liberal at heart, they need to be pushed away to vote Tories....

And yet they did for three out of four elections in the 80s (and in increased numbers each time), and did so in three straight elections from 06-11 with increasing numbers going Tory each time.....

The last 40 years have shown that things are cyclical.. party in power has scandal... gets booted... new party rules a bit... has scandal... gets booty.... new party etc.. etc...

This has been going on since the end of the elder trudeaus time in office, when the long reign of liberal rule was broken.
