Speaking of workouts, I played a shit ton of street hockey this weekend, around 5-6 hours, and I was fucking terrible. I can't figure out what's going on lately - lost a step with age maybe, just not fast enough in terms of footspeed, but also my hands can't execute as quickly on what my brain commands, so I'm just a smidge too slow in my decisions translating. I'm also thinking my stick is a bit too short, ball seems to flub off the end at the worst times, just as I deked around the goalie and just needed to roof it on the backhand, or executing on a quick tap pass. I don't know, just fucking garbage, and I leave the games frustrated the last few months (except for the random stellar game where I can't account for what's different). After one super annoying play, I totally smashed my stick against the boards and went off to go stew for a bit.
One of the guys was telling me he went through the same thing, and it was just purely a matter of exercising more frequently now that we've gotten older. Said he was a step behind on everything and super pissed at himself like I was yesterday, and then started hitting the gym a couple of times a week and got back to normal eventually. I sit all day long at the office, so that situation can't be doing me much good over time as I age, but I was way better coming back out of the pandemic (after not playing for like 9 months) than I am now, so I just can't figure it out. But I hate the fucking gym, and really don't want to have to commit to that shit now. Just want to go back to being resilient, indestructible me. Is that too much to ask for?
