Multi-pronged:
Local: active outreach/policing to reduce isolation. Avoid incarceration if possible - that's a big problem.
Failed states... ouf. How long were Germany and Japan occupied? Generally: they need economic institutions and development in a big way.
Saudi and friends: here comes the electric car, you assh@les. Seize their assets to set up a development bank.
It's a mess.

If/when Saudi Arabia reaches the point where it cannot afford the generous social benefits it hands out to it's populace and they collapse, what do you think is going to happen with its 31 million wahabi indoctrinated citizens?

Well...to start you stop immigration from muslim majority nations. This won't cure the existing home grown nutters, but will at least prevent more. That's a potential long term move.

IMO, not only will this not cure the homegrown terrorists, it will only make young Muslims who are already here easier to radicalize online.

Clearly something needs to be done to deal with the existing citizens.
Outreach, increased push for secularism, no more religious accommodations. Essentially we need to alter our look at immigration. It has to be more assimilation. Canada and the US have this mostly right...but Europe has just let floods of people come across to the West and live just like they did back on their homelands.
That's bad.

If you make it appear like a war on Islam though, that's what you'll get. I think stopping all immigration from Muslim majority countries would have unintended consequences.

k, stop all immigration then. I don't care. But Europe needs to stop letting large swaths of people move freely.
It's too uncontrolled.
And in a way we need to change our approach to Islam in the Western world. No religious accommodation. We need to push for secularism and a watering down of that religions grasp on its followers, just as we did with Christianity.
yet when we try that in the west, we are torn to shreds.
Remember when France tried to ban Burkinis, there was an uproar that you were stifling religious freedom and the women's rights to wear what they want from the same people who bemoan that the paternalistic Islamic countries make the women wear them.
No matter what we in the west do, we will be wrong. If we ban islam, we are crapping on them. If we don't we are wrong.

Just as we did with Christianity? I dunno, I don't think we did that with Christianity by telling people they can't follow their religious traditions. Feel like younger generations starting trending towards atheism gradually as more people had access to higher education, etc.
We're probably just never going to agree on this though if you think the solution is to just ban all immigrants.

We can't normalize, accommodate, and accept over-arching religious dogma anymore. Secularism must be the goal.

I'm not saying we tell anyone anything.
I'm saying we make zero accommodations for a religion - just as we took away accommodation and legitimacy from the Christianity and it's moral hold on society since the 60's.
Hell, you say it yourself...our population is moving towards atheism (super) but then we completely counteract that trend by making our largest sound of immigration come from a part of the world that is the most devout. Why?

frustrating for sure but this is probably an extremely safe time to bring somebody into the world compared to pretty much every other period of recent history
Just so it is clear then, stores will have to be open on Christmas Day, Jews will have to work on jewish holidays like Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashanah, if it is their scheduled work day on Saturday, tough tit they work etc. No more turbans in govt offices, no more yamulkahs, religious beards are gone etc
Good luck getting a politician to propose that, there are easier and more pleasurable ways to commit political suicide.

Phillipines, China, and India make up roughly 40% of our annual immigration and are easily our largest sources. Iran (Shia), Syria (mostly Sunni), and Pakistan (Sunni) are the only major sources of Islamic immigration to Canada and they make up about a 11% total annually (or roughly 30,000 immigrants, with Iran being the largest of the 3...also the most secular and westernized of the 3)
I don't disagree in general on not making religious accomodation though.
