OT: The News Thread

Re: OT - The News Thread

Nobody banned Coulter from speaking.
Salient.

Her bodyguard pulled the plug. I don't have a problem with people protesting this hate-spewing, bobbing adam's apple lunatic, but she does have the right to free speech.

There needed to be better security at the event to prevent this from happening - or maybe, just maybe, her handlers preferred all the free publicity of a cancelled event over a lame speech at a lame school.

Re: OT - The News Thread

a) Ann doesnt have the right to hate speech
b) students dont have the right to threaten violence

both are NOT protected by the Charter

Re: OT - The News Thread

They have the right of free speech. But free speech does not provide one the right to prevent others to exercise their free speech. See the difference? And it does not provide those exercising that freedom of expression to commit illegal acts like pulling fire alarms or preventing access to the building. That is all illegal.

Ah, so you are saying that there's LIMITS to free speech?

shocking.

THIS is the biggest point and bang on in my opinion. Anyone see the DRUDGE REPORT today? One headline was screaming that 2000 protesters with rocks and sticks prevented her from speaking. It's all carefully orchestrated nonsense and we are all suckers.

I am probably safe to say that this is exactly what they wanted....if that is true then, and they pulled the plug and cancelled the speech while trumping up some fear excuse to generate publicity, then this really speaks to her nature.

Where were the sticks, stones and torches? Why is the media not investigating these horrible conditions that prevented her from speaking?

What are you confused about? Unless you have proof that her speech was going to incite violence she has the right to freedom of expression in an academic forum.

Re: OT - The News Thread

and she has many, many racial remarks on record, mostly about arabs and jews, that would certainly qualify as hate speech in this country, not to mention incitements to violence against these groups.

a quick google search will make that clear enough.

Re: OT - The News Thread

Unfortunately this has become par for the course at many colleges and universities. Look at what happened at Concordia a few years ago when Bibi Netanyahu was prevented from speaking by a bunch of nitwits. This is a university, for Christ's sake. If people can't express controversial views there, where will they be able to?

Re: OT - The News Thread

Coulter's the one that ran away crying because of all the mean things those students were saying.

talk to her.

Re: OT - The News Thread

Since she is a conservative. Ottawa U paid Pierre Rose to come and speak at the school. He is the convicted FLQ terrorist. I'm sure any number of Muslim terrorists would be welcome, at any Canadian university. Christian or Jewish terrorists though, need not apply.

Re: OT - The News Thread

You should listen to people with opposite views. Often times their opinions are just as valid as yours whether you agree with what they say or not.

It's like kicking someone's ass to protest violence. Makes no sense.

Admit it Zeke, if she had a penis, you would let her bang you...every liberals greatest fantasy, right?
