OT: The News Thread

Re: OT - The News Thread

Modern religion is about social control. Thoughts pertaining to deities first dealt with our ancestors inability to explain various aspects of the physical world.
However religion morphed into a form of social control out of necessity. Once groups of humans started forming larger communities there needed to be some sort of rule of what we now refer to as law to govern the daily interactions of life. What better way to ensure people won't do hurt the collective good than to scare the living shit out of them.
Hell, just read the Old Testament, that book is all about social control.

Re: OT - The News Thread

so you don't follow the teachings of jesus.

you follow the teachings of your church.
I also don't murder people, cheat on my wife, or want my neighbors house.

But again, you continue to show your outstanding tolerance for other peoples believes. "You aren't a real Christian, you don't do EVERYTHING the bible says".

Too bad YOU can't practice what you preach and be accepting of others choices.

This may come as a surprise to you - but they're are millions of people out there who don't go to church, and who also don't murder, cheat, and covet.

and you do covet your neighbour's house and car. that's why you're so concerned with getting your fancy cars in the first place.

But again, you continue to show your outstanding tolerance for other peoples believes. "You aren't a real Christian, you don't do EVERYTHING the bible says".

There is one thing I am intolerant of for sure - and that's hypocrisy.

You are here trying to argue about the importance and goodness of your religion - yet you only follow your religion as it's convenient to you.

If in your mind the actual rules of your religion are unimportant, and the only thing that matters is that you're generally a nice, generous, and helpful person - well, newsflash - you don't need religion for that.

Too bad YOU can't practice what you preach and be accepting of others choices.

I absolutely practice what I preach. I am absolutely accepting of your choice to practice whatever faith you'd like - but I am absolutely unaccepting of your choice to judge, condemn, and attempt to legally outlaw the choices of others.

But it's sad that you don't even see the irony in your statements - an evangelical christian aggressively concerned with other people's behaviours in all walks of life - who actively condemns the choices "these kids of today" make, who actively condemns the lifestyles chosen by so many in this society, and seeks to put legal limits on these choices in any way possible - trying to criticize someone else as "judgemental".

please.

Re: OT - The News Thread

We don't have issues with you and your personal beliefs, we have issues with what the ones who teach and what it stands.

The whole base of religion is corrupt. The ones you call the radicals are the ones who run the show

Re: OT - The News Thread

You'd be hard pressed to find something that Christians aren't against, in fact I can't think of a more intolerant organization than the Catholic Church.

Just a bunch of closeted fags and pedophiles.

There is a difference between religion and christianity .... be careful with your labels.
Religion maybe corrupt, but the basis for christianity was not corrupt.
How can you say that a man preaching/teaching that to love your neighbour is corrupt ..... that if someone orders you to carry his load for a mile (Roman rule ) then go two.
That a man should love his wife and his wife is to honour and obey the husband.
It is from this same man that the comment "do not hate the sinner but despise the sin" was formed. What is wrong with that?
He died for our sins ... the jews didnt kill him, we did. And he had to die in order to provide salvation, another mistake is that everyone and his brother think that salvation is the be all to end all when actually it is the action to provide the opportunity to have a realtionship with God.
So how is that corrupt?
Men may have made different areas corrupt ... for every jimmy swaggart there are 10 preachers who remain anonomous and try to do God will.
Do we all fall short ... you betchya. And we will continue to fall short in many avenues ..... but the one thing, the greatest act that is asked is to believe ..... and accept that Jesus is the son of God and he died on the cross for our sins....... yup, what a corrupt and evil thing to do for others ...
To quote Martin Luther ..... "every man must do his own believing, just as every man must do his own dying ..... choice is yours ....

Never understood how people can make such important decisions with so little knowledge ....
Comments like the "Just a bunch of closeted fags and pedophiles" shows just how intolerent you are.
I am a Christian ...... a true blue hard core fundamentalist.....
My my better duck, because I can feel the fire and brimstone getting ready to shoot from my finger like demons on the cornerstep in hell ....lol
I am a very tolerant person ... heck I am a leafs fan, how much more tolerant than that do I have to be .....
Just a little sidebar ...... Why dropkick a people that has nothing to do with the discussion at hand? ( fags and pedophiles) ... sounds to me that you might be the one parading around the house with your little klucker uniform on .....

Re: OT - The News Thread

See, that's ignorance.

The vast majority of Christians do practice the teachings of Jesus and the bible.

The only time Christianity makes the news is when someone falters.

I disagree. 99.9% of the time Christians do not follow the teachings of Jesus.

To me it all boils down to love your neighbour as yourself.

That is RARELY..if ever followed. I know it is tough, but I think we should all be working towards that. Christian or not.

Quite a bold statement ... where do you get your facts from ....

Re: OT - The News Thread

And? What does that mean?

It means if you remove the radicals religion is fine. Which is what I've said from the get-go.

I'm not talking radicals. Im talking about my parents, my friends, my brothers, myself, my neighbours.

Radicals are the easy ones to 'pick off'.

The church has been a huge part of my life. They are great at many things such as helping my family have food. Helping my family through loss, etc. The church has a place and it is hard to stay true to the teachings of Jesus...but most people do not understand the teachings.

I fondly remember Pastor Cliff. He would answer all my questions openly and honestly. I remember when some kids were picking on his son and I said I would hit them with my hockey stick (I was like 10). He explained to me why I was wrong...changed my life.

Actually Im going to try and track him down. Pastor Larry too.

Re: OT - The News Thread

thought that one would make for little more discussion ... but notice that the comment is for the man to love his wife and not vice versa ...

Doesn't need a lot of discussion;
Men were in power so... look at that!...it's say right here IN THE BIBLE that women should obey men.
It's been said that religion is the opiate of the masses, but there's a few levels there IMO.

To steal one from ME, reading comprehension muther****er. Try it

I was talking about the leaders who sit on their high horses in the Vatican. You know, the ones who cover for pedophile priests. Ya those you hold so high and mighty who preach the word or the lord and go against everything it stands for.

Here is a quote for you.."Beliefs are dangerous. Beliefs cause the mind to stop fuctioning. A non functioning mind is clinically dead. Believe in nothing"
