Interesting. Pattern kinda holds then.
It's called anecdotal. It's kinda weird how quite a few of the people who have the minority opinion in the news and politics threads also happen to be Sens or Habs fans. I'm not sure why but it's interesting to see.
Maybe because it's home to a great number of first or second generation immigrants. These immigrants have lived under totalitarian regimes and come here embracing liberal ideologies to get away. These immigrants also like the fact that liberal ideologies cater to their acceptance in the society and tend to value their individual cultures. It's called anecdotal.
Also, Toronto is a hotbed of L(l)iberal thinking. Has been that way for ages...not sure why.
Immigrants often hold just as 'regressive' ideals as the average "white".Maybe because it's home to a great number of first or second generation immigrants. Whites on the other hand grow up/live/work with, manage or are managed by, immigrants for years. They find it hard to believe when someone on TV tells them that "Hey, that guy Muhammad you are friends with is just pretending. Deep inside he wants to kill you".
Overall, the city has ranked high among the world's best places to live. The people's mindset contribute greatly to that.
Parties in power change but I'd be surprised if a typical immigrants' left or right leaning position changes with it.Immigrants often hold just as 'regressive' ideals as the average "white".
They often vote Liberal out of appreciation and allegiance to the party that facilitated their arrival to the country (which is perfectly reasonable).
Mix that in with the champagne socialist types in Toronto, and you get what you get.
This is sheer idiocy.Parties in power change but I'd be surprised if a typical immigrants' left or right leaning position changes with it.
John has grown up with Muhammads all his life and finds no issues with being their fellow Torontonian; Muahmmad wants to be friends with John too and prosper in this country.
Right learning ideology tells John that Muahmmad is taking over your country and you should limit how many of them are around, and they tell Muahmmad that you are different from John and aren't all that welcome here. Both sides, when it comes to Toronto, dislike these positions. Liberal ideologies cater to both.
Interesting. Pattern kinda holds then.
I didn't call you an idiot. I stated that sentiment was idiocy. Reducing both groups like that is disingenuous. Not all 'whites' are steeping with anger about immigration and not all immigrants are just happy to be here.
The point I was making was that many immigrant groups are devoutly religious and hold views drastically in opposition to liberal ideals. Sikh and Muslim immigrants are no different than bible thumping christians in their basic outlook.

In the context of this conversation, Toronto vs Ottawa and Montreal, that doesn't make any sense.Sorry my bad.
That's fair but we are not talking about individuals or groups here. In any large population you will see some representative of different types of mindsets. We are taking about population that is of significant size and can affect elections and legislations. I'm sure there are plenty of Trump fans in Toronto; or plenty of religious people who are not only unwilling to even entertain the thought of their prophet having had a mental disorder as opposed to actually being divine, but also being so attached to their religion that they take part in practices such as honour killing.
I'm sticking to my general sentiment here. It's very hard for a Trump to convince a typical Torontonian that his or her friend is dangerous and win elections as a result; it would be equally hard for an ultra religious politician to win any significant number of votes if his or her platform is mainly about religiosity and how one group is superior to another because of it.
Well, it has altered voting trends alittle. But 10 years vs. the past 60 still isn't going to reverse the train. They just slowed it down. You honestly believe this mess? Why didn't 10 years of Conservative rule do anything to the immigrant voting trends then? Why didn't the C's get their "appreciation and allegiance" for faciliating their arrival to the country?
I think you're mixing up the words "immigrants" and "muslims".
It's called anecdotal.

meh, I can find plenty of trump fans in toronto, and who are also leaf fans.
They just don't frequent this board.
When talking about leaf fans, this board is the ultimate in small sample size.

I can speak for myself and the people I grew up with. Neither I nor my family knew about parties in Canada when we applied to immigrate. We could not careless about parties for a while after we moved (when you don't know the language, the local culture, schools etc, who is the PM is the least of your concerns).Well, it has altered voting trends alittle. But 10 years vs. the past 60 still isn't going to reverse the train. They just slowed it down.
