OT: The Official Toronto Raptors Thread

Not including tonight:

So kind of quickly wrapping my head around what this means for the roster this summer:

Jake: 19.5
Scottie: 38.775
Ingram: UFA (I'm going to put 32 in for now)
RJ: 27.7
IQ: 32.5

Dick: 4.99
Okai: 6.4
Walter: 3.64
Mogbo: 1.96
Shead: 1.96

Davion: RFA with a 19.4 million dollar cap hold for some reason

So that gets us to 169 million in committed money...and our high 1st this year (should be around 8.5 if we pick 5th overall, up to 12.5 if we pick 1st though) brings us to ~178 but 197 ish with Davion's cap hold. The 1st apron will be around 196, so we've got the MLE (12.9M) to work with and could easily bring Boucher and another functioning veteran in to go with the kids for that money. There's always a bunch of decent NBA players who fall through the cracks in free agency.

There's a bunch of UFA's we should look at:

Banton, Tre Jones, Boucher obviously, Kennard if he falls through the cracks, NAW, Melton, Brogdon. Should definitely be able to get 2-3 of those.

Not an Ingram fan unfortunately. Don't really know what we're doing here. Technically an upgrade but you're not going anywhere with BI as a main guy i don't think.

Add a few bench pieces and I think we're a 45+ win team next year....without another injury clusterfuck of a season.

Not going anywhere? Maybe the 2nd round. But the new era has to start somewhere.

As I will remind everyone everywhere between now and the start of next season, this was the rotation the first time the Raptors made the playoffs in the We The North era

C - Jonas Valanciunas
PF - Amir Johnson
SF - Demar DeRozan
SG - Terrence Ross
PG - Kyle Lowry
6 - Patrick Patterson
7 - Greivis Vasquez
8 - John Salmons

Only one of those guys got a ticket to a championship parade

The first time we won a round in that era?

C - Val
PF - Patterson
SF - Demarre Carroll
SG - Demar
PG - Kyle
6 - Biyombo
7 - Ross
8 - Scola
9 - Norm Powell

This time, only 2 guys got a ticket to the championship parade that was only 3 years after this.

We need to get back to making kids earn their minutes, and stop being afraid of decent bench veterans who know how to do their job. Our starting lineup is good enough to consistently make the playins/offs for the year or two as we figure out what we're doing with or turning RJ, IQ, and now BI into.

Yeah thats probably our ceiling until we get someone who is a legit offensive engine.
I think i'd like to see Davion moved today, even just for an extra 2nd, i dont really see him as part of the group moving forward, and Boucher too if they dont plan on an extension

Lakers picking up Mark Williams could be a pretty sneaky great move.

Jimmy agreed to a 2 year extension for $121m….so Warriors get a nice 3 year run with him.

Realize it doesn’t ideally fit the Raptors rebuild timeline, but I kinda love them adding a scorer like Ingram who can create his own shot at will to close out games/end a poor run…..it isn’t the ideal pitch perfect addition, but if that isn’t presenting itself you can’t just sit around and hope for it to happen while Scottie’s best years pass you by….so long as he signs, I think Raptors are gonna be thrilled with Ingram.

Getting a guy like BI is what I was really hoping they'd do before this season, when it was clear they only had 4 legit nba starters and badly needed a 5th. BI definitely completes the starting lineup with another legit starter, and complements the rest of the lineup nicely as a pretty pure scorer and legit iso guy. The fit makes all sorts of sense to me.

But it kinda feels like also slams a lid on the team's upside. The starting lineup just looks pretty mid. There's definitely room for improvement if all the pieces fit right, which could make all of them more effective in their roles, but it's still hard to see a jump all the way from mid to elite. "Good" seems like this lineup's max upside.

Now that it looks like we have our starting lineup for next year set, tho, and what looks like a pretty good and deep young bench, maybe now we can really force a tank the rest of this year by sitting everyone out as much as possible, and try our best to get a top-4 pick in what i think is a 4-deep draft.

Add a top-end young talent to this group next year could make things really interesting.

The other thing is that even if the starting lineup is just "good", that still might be good enough to give all of the starters good trade value and make it possible for us to swing better trades for star talent going forward.

Yeah, if you arent going full tank, it's fine, adding Ingram and a top 5 pick to Scottie, Puddle, IQ and Barrett is there, as a championship team? No, but you have that core and at least some interesting kids in Dick, Jakobe, Shead. The offseason is to add actual functional useful role player vets
